Was the first Wilder-Fury fight essentially a cherrypick

He was also on a comeback trial for a year and had 2 tune up fights. Vitali came back from a severe back injury and a 4 years lay off to straightly fight for a title.

Many were also saying that Fury was going to get starched in the rematch. That's because Fury was always underrated, not because he was a cherrypick.

Yeah. Wilder gets under my skin, I was actually warming back up to before the Fury loss, and I probably would've ended up a fan again had he took it like a man and not lied about the weight of the costume. His arrogance regarding Breland and the Malignaggi situation is disgusting.

I'm a huge Usyk fan. One of my all-time favourites, that said; I don't know how you can not like him. Yeah, you can think he's overrated but he himself is very hard to dislike. Aren't you a big Lebedev fan? That's respectable.

i suppose. it was fairly odd comeback trail for Fury:

the second best cruiserweight in Albania -> ex fringe contender on a losing streak vs nobody much -> unbeaten world champ.

Yes i am a big lebedev fan.

I was a critic of usyk before he became undisputed at cruiserweight however. I became a fan til he beat gassiev that sealed the deal for me. It was usyks fanbase that made me critic him and his hype ,until he became undisputed at cruiserweight beating gassiev in dominant fashion in his backyard. That sealed the deal for me i became an instant fan.

Accomplishments gets u fans , not hype .

Fury was picked due to his time away, weight issue, plus drink & drug issues. But hasn’t Wilder tip-toed through most of his career and during his reign as champ, avoiding ‘better’ opponents ? I’m just amazed he wants a 3rd Fury fight. Although that could change due to current circumstances. Deep down l somehow think Wilder won’t mind now he’s had time to think a little since triggering the trilogy far too quickly. Pride can do funny things when making decisions.

A lot of people thought Wilder was cherry picking Fury. In fact Fury was cherry picking Wilder.

I can’t remember the build up, but wasn’t Fury’s dad against it and didn’t his trainer want 1 more warm-up ? Maybe just mind games if so.

First one was a massive cherry pick gone wrong.

Second on the other hand, wasn't a cherry pick. Wilder had to take it, to keep any credibility.

Warren's on record as saying they told Team Wilder Fury's just coming back for one last payday. Pathetic that's what it took to get them interested.

There were two cherries picked .

Wilder picking Fury over AJ thinking he was to far gone on such short time back to win . He even openly bragged how he would become the Lineal champion only to deny such things exist after the draw ?

Fury picking Wilder over AJ because he knew it was a cherry pick he could win and grab a belt much easier . ( This really isn’t a cherry pick but ? )

What both Wilder and Fury have in common both saw each other as easier opponents than AJ , just the one pick gone wrong was a Cherry Bomb , Wilder blew his fingers off with that one .

Of course it was a cherry-pick.
Tyson Fury fought Sefer Seferi and half the boxing world reckoned he was a year or two away from being anywhere near ready for Joshua or Wilder, and many of the rest thought he'd never be ready for them .... then Fury/Warren started negotiating with Wilder's people.

It was a cherry pick. Fury was supposed to be a spent force, a mess and on a last fight money grab. That's what a Wilder and his team thought. Warren claims he even had to phone Shirley winkle to convince him Fury was done as a fighter and just wanted money. That cherry pick nearly went wrong.

To be fair he knew he was going to get a fitter and sharper Fury in the rematch. Although he did have it in his head that Fury was a feather fist so he had 12 rounds to be perfect for that 2 seconds. He got battered and stopped in alot less than 12.

If he really does take the 3rd fight he will get a lot of respect from me. He clearly learned very little from that 1st fight but bravado aside he learned a thing or 2 in the 2nd fight. Mostly about himself. So fair play if he goes in again.

But the fact that Bootleg D and his legion of Bootlickers had the audacity to claim that Fury was as good as ever after all the inactivity, the industrial drink, drug and junk food abuse, the drastic weight gain and loss, not having fought anyone with a pulse in three years, the mental health problems, and the two exhibition fights against zero threat scrubs both of which he looked terrible in was comical. Bootleg D even had the gall to claim that he was only 50% and Fury was 100%

D got the shock of his life when the 40% shell of Fury didn't turn up for the rematch though

You'd have to have your whole head up Wilder's ass not to think it wasn't a cherry pick, Fury hadn't look good in his comeback fights and there was doubt as to if he'd ever be at the top level again.

But as cherry picks go it wasn't a bad option, other than Joshua or perhaps Whyte it was the most marketable fight, even if it had the potential to be a mismatch if Fury ended being shot. I'd compare it to Lewis fighting Tyson. Tyson was obviously shot or close to it, but it was still a big fight just like Wilder/Fury was but going in there was some thinking just like with Tyson with Lewis that one of them would be a spent force.

Fortunately for Fury, he still had plenty left and even at 50% out boxed Wilder for 95% of the fight.
