https://www.pressreader.com/uk/boxing-news/20180607/281517931813403 Came across this article today. Its a few years old so maybe you guys have already seen this. It was an interesting, if depressing read. It sounds like the guy is really busted up: problems in both hips, both shoulders, and constant nerve pain in his feet. Yeesh. It just goes to show how brutal this sport is. At least he seems very upbeat and (apparently) is still lucid mentally. I wish he would have hung up the gloves after losing to Wladimir the second time. He soaked up a lot of damage in those fights against Povetkin and Shaun George.
Will never forget his wife screaming at him while Wlad Klit was pulverizing him "We can do it!". I wanted Byrd to learn over and say "ok bitach YOU get in here and fight!".
Sucks to read that. Byrd is a really nice guy. I met him a few years ago at James Toney's second to last fight in St Louis. Apparently he and James are pretty good friends and he made the trek from Michigan to support him. Cool guy that accomplished a lot in his career from Olympic silver to a being world champion.
Super nice. I remember being shocked by how small he was. He couldn't have weighed much more than 200 pounds when I met him. Did not look like a heavyweight at all.
Shame to hear that. Maybe Bryd being much the smaller man, the fights took a lot out of him physically.
I've read a few articles about him when I was trying to find out why he went up to heavyweight. I remember him saying he smokes loads of weed to get through the pain. Being at an unnaturally high weight for so long can't have helped.
I have the very very similar situations with my feet but without the burning. Same amount of pain. First time I've come across someone with these same I'm assuming nerve issues that are this bad!!
Small for a heavyweight. I work out with with current guys that fight at 168 that look bigger than he did in street clothes.
He was not a hw he was a natural lhw and obviously younger guys will look bigger than him because they have his younger muscular mass
Yeah I know. Lol. I have friends that fought him in the amauters but thanks for educating me. I don't know what I would have done without you stating the obvious.
