Archie Moore v Rex Layne & Jerry Quarry?

He'd beat them both.

Quarry Moore 50-50 fight

 

Against rex I'd favor Archie, but quarry would knock Moore out before the 8th

 

He'd stop Layne .He'd lose to Quarry but drop him along the way in a tough fight.

 

Def pick him to out box Layne. I could see him and Quarry trading wins. But I’d have to pick The old mongoose in 2 of 3.

 

He'd beat them both. Quarry offering the much harder fight.

 

He beats Layne however he wants. Brawling, breaking him down, or simply outclassing him.

Quarry would be a little challenging but Quarry always had a hard time with guys who had good ring IQ. This would be no different. Moore also has enough power to demand Quarry's respect, and the ring experience and craftyness to find a way to win even if for some reason he's behind. Moore by competitve decision or late round tko.

 

Quarry would win and probably by KO. Look at how much better Quarry did against Patterson. I know Patterson was on the slide a bit, as was Archie against Patterson but I think might be too quick and smooth for Archie. He'd break him with fast sharp combinations to the head and body.

 

He would probably beat both, although Quarry could be tricky. The point is - Quarry wouldn't outbox Moore and he would likely try to do so.

 

I'm not sure that's true. See the Patterson wins and the Machen and Ellis losses were close fights that might have gone the other way if judges favoured aggression and bodypunching.

 

He was pretty old for Patterson and def shouldn’t be used as his bar. Considering it was his worst performance. So bad his manager thought he threw the fight. A prime Moore probably beats Patterson as well. He was prime about four or five years prior to that fight. So he was past it by a little.

 

I have heard that Moore did no training for the Patterson fight but the hook he got hit by Patterson was pretty wicked and quick so I think the fights was legit. After the horrific beat-down by Marciano I am sure Moore was battered and damaged for a while after but Moore had 11 wins in that 14 month span post Marciano till Patterson including 6'3 James J. Parker.

I am thinking the Archie that beat Baker and Nino 2X Whitehurst, Maxim and Slade,Bivens and Henry finds a way to beat Layne and Quarry but it would not be easy because both Layne and Quarry had power. I'm thinking Archie wins a Close tough crafty decision over Quarry and a wider rough fight with Layne
