No lower than top #5 welter, and possibly the #1 Jr.middle Hearns and no lower than top#3 middle Hagler,
Head to Head in my opinion. Who rates higher on the ATG list?
I'd say Hearns Tbh. Hearns accomplished so much more.
Winning championships from Welter to cruiser fought
competitively almost 20yrs after his war with Hagler.
Fought all comers , and was still winning at (47) yrs
old. It's much easier to dominate one weight class,
especially when the fighter seemed to be born to fight
at that weight as Hagler was at middle.

Didn't the Hagler fight happen first?

    That is an uncommon opinion.

Ewps. That makes Hagler's strange (to me) cautiousness seem more understandable. I mean, the solid victory over the just-turned-prime Sugar Ray Leonard would have been reason enough to be at least somewhat cool.

I still see Hagler as a more devastating puncher and slightly better fighter than Hearns, though both were incredible!

Yes it did, it was the reason all the"Experts"
thought Hearns would have a similar
    result against Hagler.

You have good reason to ask. Hearns was a spectacular puncher...at lighter weights. Hagler was spectacular...at middleweight.

I could be wrong, all respect.

    A little something like this...
    26. Hagler
    27. Hearns
    28. Mayweather
    29. Pacquiao....
    Not much in it.

I'd have both Floyd and Pac higher than Hearns and Hagler. I can see no reason whatsoever to have Hagler ahead of Floyd. Floyd is significantly higher any way you look at it for me.

As for Hearns and Hagler... That's a hard one. Hearns has some truly magnificient performances (especially the KO over Duran) and also a perhaps unique achievement in winning belts from WW all the way to LHW, but he was never dominant over a single weight class as Hagler was at MW. Maybe he could have been at 154, but he didn't stay long enough to find out.

Hearns easily has better wins but Hagler has the consistency edge. Overall Hearns>Hagler.

In the last 40 years I would have Hearns 20ish... Hagler 30ish
