What is the best argument against FMJ being the GOAT?

The fact that his resume is not as good as the realistic contenders, or even half of the resumes of the realistic contenders.

Remove half of Greb's resume at random, and it still pisses all over Mayweathers!

I just really can't get over this statement.

What 40 fighters would you put in front of him?
    Seriously.

But did you see those fights on Greb's resume?
Did you see any of those all time greats in their prime?

Hi mate , name these PRIME fighters for me please.

Mosely had been smashed by Forrest and beaten up by Winky Wright and had been pro for SEVENTEEN fricken years when he fought Floyd.

Cotto had been beaten up by Margarito and Pacquiao before he fought Floyd and was easily outpointed by Austin friggen Trout in his next fight after facing FMJ. He had been pro for TWELVE years when he fought Floyd.

The Marquez fight was pretty embarrassing with Marquez coming up from 135 to face a Mayweather who basically cheated at the weigh in. Marquez had been pro for SIXTEEN years when he faced Floyd and had lost to Pacquiao TWO fights previously and had also looked fairly ordinary when losing to Chris John.

Pacquiao had been knocked cold and was snoring on the canvas by Marquez three fights prior to facing Floyd and was WAY past his absolute best when he fought Floyd in what was a piece of promotion as good as anything Tex Rickard and Doc Kearns came up with. Battle of the geriatrics basically.

De La Hoya had lost two of his previous four fights prior to fighting Mayweather and I believe he was beaten by Sturm as well so make that three of his previous four fights. Oscar had participated in one fight in the previous two and a half years as well so he was also inactive.

I compare this to say Ali beating the monsters Liston and Foreman and facing an animal like Frazier so early into his comeback after three and a half years of inactivity, Duran beating Sugar Ray Leonard, Leonard facing Benitez, Duran, Hearns and then coming back to outpoint the legendary Hagler who had been unbeaten for eleven years Hagler, Greb fighting everyone and anyone anywhere they liked and giving a future Heavyweight champion like Tunney hell despite being a middleweight disguised as a light heavyweight or even say Mickey Walker having the balls to fight someone like Schmeling and Floyd's accomplishments look pretty so so.

    Cheers All.

Good post, De La Hoya was also more than holding his own with Mayweather until he gassed.

Floyd was in his prime when RJJ was around, yet NOBODY thought that Floyd was better or was calling him the best ever.

I also cannot say that Floyd was the best I’ve seen on film.

Toney, SRL, SRR, RJJ, Ali, Nunn impressed me more.

    Two more words: Sam Langford

    Two more words: Bob Fitzsimmons

And three other words: Sugar Ray Robinson.

If you analyse prime wins through the lens of how many times each fighter has been beat,
everyone of "your" all time greats résumé' starts to fall apart.
    I don't think that's a good argument.

    8 words

How many times have you seen them fight?

This isn't your opinion it's been borrowed through years of chinese whispers.

    None more so than Floyds.

Canelo was green, wasn’t as good as he is now, and the fight was a joke due to the weight clause.

    JMM? Moving on.

    Manny? See above.

Cotto? Decent win, but it was a hard night.

    Gatti? Lol

Oscar? 50/50 fight until Oscar felt his age.

    Floyd’s prime is hilariously bad.

Its not how many times they " have been beat", it's their recent form. I made that pretty clear so I can add lack of reading comprehension to lack of boxing knowledge.

Ali fought unbeaten Frazier and Foreman in their primes. Leonard fought Benitez and Hearns in their primes when they were unbeaten.

Robinson kept fighting the much larger and avoided by the top middleweights La Motta when Robinson was a welterweight. Tommy Bell was actually a REALLY good welterweight champion when SRR defeated him for the title. Robinson fought prime guys like Basilio and Fullmer when Robbie was past his best and they were prime.

Its all about beating good and great fighters when they were in good form and in their physical prime. Its not that hard to understand.

How about answering my question as to what prime, great fighters Floyd beat or even fought ?

As for being a hipster I am 56 years old ;) I thought I was pretty " hip " in the early 1980s when I was a punk rock follower seeing bands like the Clash and the Dead Kennedys. Those days are long gone unfortunately :D

    Cheers.
