Monzon Duran Hearns Jones Jr Hopkins Mayweather Jr Ali Leonard Holyfield Locche All in no particular order. I've not included fighters I think that I haven't seen enough of to make a judgement, and fighters that don't have footage in their prime, with the exception of Locche who I'm a bit of a fanboy for.
You wanna watch some Éder Jofre and Wilfredo Gomez then pal, absolutely outstanding fighters. Almost perfect.
Not a list guy so this is full of holes, but........ Greb Armstrong Robinson Langford Charles Benny Leonard Canzoneri Duran Ross Ali
Definitely will do that mate, cheers for the suggestions! Have been watching Jimmy Blivin, and Ezzard Charles all day, it's tempting for me to slot Ezzard in for Holyfield but I've gotta have a few sleeps on it first lol.
greb, srr, Langford, Ali, hank, Charles, b leonard, pep, duran, Wilde … top 10 is just too freggin hard
I only rate 1960-present Roy Jones Jr Carlos Monzon Muhammad Ali Sugar Ray Leonard Julio Cesar Chavez Roberto Duran Thet top 6 is clear Mike McCallum Evander Holyfield Bernard Hopkins Michael Spinks Theres about 8 other fighters that can make a case for that 7-10 spots
Robinson Langford Greb Armstrong Ali Charles Fitzsimmons Gans B Leonard Duran ...with Pep just missing out at 11.
1: Langford 2: Greb 3: Charles 4: Robinson 5: Armstrong 6: McLarnin 7: Ali 8: Canzoneri 9: Moore 10: Pacquiao
1. Being considered the greatest p4p fighter of your era, in times when the best often fought the best, counts for a lot. 2. I have a bias which leans towards great stories. 3. They are probably in the all-time top 3 of an historically very deep division. 4. When I look at the next few names on my list (Pep, Louis, Walker, SRL, Saddler, Wilde...) I can see arguments for a couple of them - particularly Pep - but not enough to persuade me. 5. When I cringe to see some (imho) undeserving modern fighters on these kinds of lists, it really encourages me to promote the old skoolers' shizzle for rizzle.
Here goes: 1. Robinson 2. Armstrong 3. Pep 4. Ali 5. Louis 6. Duran 7. B Leonard 8. Charles 9. Joe Gans 10. Langford Moore, Fitz, SRL, Ross, Canzoneri, McLarnin, McGovern, Saddler and Wilde would all be in or around my top 20. I'm still coming to terms with a placement for Greb which is why he isn't in there. Maybe one day soon... If you're happy to rate purely on resume then of course he'd be near the very top. I have guys in there that there isn't much film of so I realise this could seem like an inconsistency... I used to have Jack Johnson really high up but I have to say this forum must be rubbing off on me as he's not in my top 20 anymore.
