Don't know who that is, but I'm sure it's a good suggestion. Could do with some delusion free responses.
No Loughran isn't one of the best ever pure boxers because of all the weaknesses I highlighted. I'd label him as a spoiler more than a pure boxer. I've seen his fights and I would confidently pick Sven Ottke against him who was a much superior technician. I used the comparison to John Ruiz because of the similarity in styles. The difference being Ruiz offensive arsenal is better. He has a better jab and could double or trebble it and he had a left hook and right hand when he needed to use them. Ruiz has a high guard, again an advantage over Loughran. And Ruiz uses head movement, where as Loughran's head movement is stiff.
I'd suggest his book for that absolute full resource. Springs Toledo is also a brilliant writer (and poster here) who recently wrote a short book on Greb called Smokestack Lightning. Highly recommend, along with any of his books and free internet articles he has written.
Not if they all fail the eye test. Every measurable sport has progressed. It stands to reason boxing has
By his contempary standards but Hagler and Monzon were beating better boxers. Just think the 1924 100m final winner not only wouldn't qualify for the olympics but he would get beaten by a woman today. Times change
The ones that are on film do... with flying colours. Yet for some reason you don't think LaMotta and Basilio do. Speaking of which, where's your response on that thread?
You are delusional if you think that Ruiz is even close defensively to Loughran. Ruiz had no legs while Tommy could move all night long. If you think that high guard is enough to be better than them, then why Ali or Jones weren't destroyed by high guard modern boxers? Will you make up new excuse now?
Show me some footage proving what you're saying. You don't know what you're talking about, your just regurgitating the opinions of someone who heard about him, from someone who saw him. Not your opinion. Link me to somebody who actually knows.
Can we please stop using track and filed sports as comparison to fights sports? Track and field progression is mostly about better equipments (as well as better diet), Jessie Owen would be still one of the most athletic men in the world today. Progression has nothing to do with evolution of human being. Meanwhile boxing is much older than other sports and it's much less related to non-human aspects like equipment. You won't become better boxer just because you are born 80 years later. Not to mention that boxing hasn't upped his popularity since 1920s. If anything, most promising athletes chooses different sports nowadays. Back then basketball, football and many individual sports weren't as popular - only soccer and baseball in US were close. Now you have many sports and it's not true that most of the best athletes in the world become boxers. Not close to that in fact.
You think people who admit when they don't know something should be laughed at? That explains why you won't do it.
There's 6 fights that I can see on YT, none of them full length. He looked good. His opponents did not.
