Evander holyfield at 6'2 1/2 and 209 pounds on roids landing combinations hits A LOT harder than schmeling and still Foreman kept walking towards him. Foreman would not respect a right hand from a smaller weaker guy
You do realize that there isn't a direct correlation between a fighters weight, and how hard they hit? For example Jack Dempsey weighed about 190lbs, and he hit a lot harder than Holydield.
Schmeling was 193 against Louis, Holyfield was 208 against Foreman. That's not huge difference and Max hit harder than CW Evander. Let's not act like Schmeling couldn't put fluid combinations on slower guy. I think that Schmeling's style is not suited well for beating Holyfield because he was a bit too static on his feet but he still beat Louis (much better fighter than old Foreman) cleanly, so I see him winning too. I know that Foreman would eat a lot of rights and he shouldn't disrespect his power.
Schmelling was not a top puncher, his supposed reputation as puncher was inflated and invented by Louis fans like you in order to give him more merit. I think that maybe dempsey could hit harder than Holyfield but you can't prove this nonsense of "A LOT HARDER". Like i said a few times before, weighing more does not make you a natural puncher but the added and correct mass of functional muscle will increment your hitting power of course and i have no doubt that an explosive and peak roided holyfield did hit harder than schmeling.
No it wasn't. He had a reputation as a puncher long before he fought Louis. If a fighter is not a puncher before he takes steroids, then he will not be a puncher after he takes steroids. Taking steroids will increase muscle mass, and functional strength, but it makes minimal difference to punching power.
It is false like hell. If you are a trained pro fighter this will increment your hitting power for sure because if you have more muscle than before and the same speed you will increment the hitting power. 1+1
It doesn't work that way. Power is a neuromuscular thing. If your speed and reflexes stay the same, then adding muscle will make next to no difference to your power!
He absolutely was a top puncher. Power is not everything, Schmeling's right is amon most accurate and versatile in HW division history. You vastly overrate raw power, Schmeling was far more dangerous puncher than a lot of guys with heavier hands.
Schmeling is a bit of an odd case, because he was a defensive counter puncher, who had some power in his fists. His style meant that he scored few early stoppages, but he still has a high KO%. He was the only man to stop Young Stribling in 280 fights. Johnsy Risko has a run of over 100 fights, where he is fighting everybody, and Schmeling is the only guy to stop him. He was the only man ever to stop Steve Hamas. You get the idea that he could break almost anybody down, given enough rounds!
Of the era? I say overall i don't rate schmeling at all as puncher. But max baer,Louis, buddy, galento and abe simon did hit harder than him for sure
