Do you know how many Calzaghe links are on the web to find from back in 2000 to 2003 time. Roy did duck & I hope I to find the link & shut you up, http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/wales/1305307.stm https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2001/oct/14/boxing.joecalzaghe This content is protected https://www.bing.com/videos/search?...9182D42B234EE1F50915918&view=detail&FORM=VIRE
Dear lord, this is so cringeworthy. First off, these links are nothing without context. Nothing. You have no idea what you’re talking about. Roy Jones was the consensus P4P, no.1 fighter in the world. He was also the undisputed LHW champion of the world. His team were negotiating with HBO to land the Dariusz fight, and he was also keeping a close eye on the winner of the Tito-Hopkins fight. And when Hopkins won, Dariusz and Hopkins were the biggest fights for him. Those were the fights that the boxing world wanted to see. Joe’s cringeworthy challenge was for the world’s best fighter to fight him in Wales at SMW, and on Showtime. Do you know how ridiculous that was? Outside of Europe, Joe was relatively unknown at the time. Now explain to me on what planet would the world’s best fighter have dropped down to a division that he’d left 5 years previously, to fight for a lightly regarded WBO title, against a guy who hardly anybody knew of? There’s no way you were around at the time. The world’s best fighter does not chase a relatively unknown guy from a different division, for a belt which nobody respects. The WBO were a laughing stock back then. There was zero demand for this fight in the U.S. as Joe hadn’t beaten many guys of note. He’d recently struggled with Reid, he’d recently looked bad against Starie and Thornberry, and his most recent wins had been against Sheika, Veit and McIntyre. Go and ask the opinions of the U.S. members of this forum. Joe was only known to the U.S. fans when he hammered Lacy 5 years later in 2006. This fight wasn’t in any way viable. And Joe knew that. But if gave him the opportunity to starve of criticism by running his mouth. ‘Stop hiding Roy Jones’ How did he have the audacity to say that? Roy was the world’s best fighter. Joe is the guy who was hiding away in Europe, defending a lightly regarded belt, against C class opposition. Let me educate you: If Joe had really wanted to have fought Roy back then, he’d have moved up to LHW and fought in the U.S. like Showtime wanted him to. That would have been the logical thing to have done. He could have raised his U.S. profile, he could have beaten named fighters which could have created media and fan interest in the fight, and he could also have moved up the rankings into a possible mandatory position. He wouldn’t do that though. And after these cringeworthy call outs, Joe continued killing himself in order to make weight SMW, where he continued to fight mostly B and C class level guys. Again, you simply possess no knowledge of the era. The links are embarrassing. It took Joe another 7 years to reach the LHW division and to fight in the U.S. Roy went on and fought Woods, Tarver and Ruiz. Go and look who Joe went on to fight. I challenge you or any other member to find me ANY link where Joe was open to fighting Roy, in HIS weight class and in HIS country. Joe is the one who had no interest in fighting the guys at LHW who consisted of: Roy, Dariusz, Nunn, Griffin, Tarver, Reggie and Hill etc, to instead fight the ikes of: Veit, Salem, Brewer, McIntyre, Sobot and Pudwell etc at SMW. You have been duped. Knowledgeable posters like me weren’t. Actions speak louder than words. Joe was the guy who fought guys like Mario Veit TWICE. Go and educate yourself on the subject.
Interesting... First of all, none of those links suggest anything about Roy pulling out of a fight with Joe. Second, in the second video you posted(the one in your ridicuolus bing search), It is acknowledged that Joe is struggling to make the weight. The WBO(which had the same esteem back then as the IBO has now) SMW champion who's struggling to make the weight wants the IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO LHW champion to come down in weight, travel to his back yard and disregard his TV deal? That's just silly. Hate to break this to you, but if there's anyone avoiding the fight in this equation, It's Joe.
Exactly. What a joke. It would have been like accusing Floyd of ducking Hatton, had Ricky have called for Floyd to have fought him in Manchester at LWW for his WBU belt. How on earth did Joe have the audacity to tell Roy to stop hiding? Unbelievable.
I do hope nobody has put forth Roid's name here. Aside from him being a walking PED factory who would stand about as much chance of beating stringent drug testing as he would've of winning Dog Owner of the Year, let alone VADA testing, he spent his entire steroid enhanced prime avoiding legit punchers like they simultaneously had been infected with Ebola and the Bubonic plague and I can assure had he not that glass chin of his would've categorically been exposed much sooner than it was, and yes I do mean even the walking PED factory roided off his tits version. Did you guys know he was knocked out in the amateurs by a Irishman named John Reid and suffered a heavy KD against Lou Del Valle aka Mr KO50%
There's only you that regularly makes me literally laugh out loud on here. The dog owner of the year bit killed me. Haha!
Your only evidence that Floyd used peds in his prime is how unbeatable he looked and your bias has forced you to concoct an explanation that comforts you
Fair enough. BTW, you wouldn't perchance know where I could get my hands on a copy of Floyd vs Lou Del Valle I've been searching for one for years?
Hamed at 122, bit of a left-field answer. He looked unbeatable at the weight, wasn't as small as he was at 126, amazing reflexes and that power from Allah. If he had stayed at 122 Naz would have been unbeatable but he prolly did have to go up to 126 to have much chance of being considered an ATG.
Potentially. He was quick, very elusive, great timing, great chin and power. No weaknesses. Forget the power-happy version at featherweight who got too cocky for his own good, who barely sparred and tried to KO everyone with a single punch. The 122lb version was a terrific fighter.
