I never meet him, but I did stand next to his wax self in Las Vegas. According to the tour guide, they measure everything with great detail. I'm 6'2" Ali was just bit taller, maybe less than an inch. Ali isn't just tall, he's actually a pretty thick guy up close.

The same exhibition had Holyfield and I had at least an inch on him. Holy's under 6'2" for sure.

If Rocky was say Mike Tyson's size and weighed around 220 ( which he wasnt ) I reckon he would have a great chance of beating Fury as Fury isnt exactly in great shape or unhittable. He is no speedster either. Fury's technique has plenty of holes in it. He often loops his right hand and like a lot of huge fighters he can be smashed with the overhand right. Fury does seem to have a real fighters mentality though and he can change his style during a fight.

A lot would depend on how much clinching the ref allowed. If the ref was say Carlos Padilla from the Thrilla in Manila then the Boulder ( a bigger Rock ;)) would have a great chance.

The five foot ten, 185 pound version with his sixty seven inch reach on the other hand would be in deep water.

    Cheers All.

Adding 35 lbs to Rock would only make him slower imo and probably affect his stamina.

Anyone who has ever sparred with someone tall who steps back knows how much more energy it takes to get close. I've seen people claim stuff like Marciano would be too short for Bowe or whomever to jab or uppercut, and Marciano would get straight inside.

Bowe is the best infighter I have seen of the big heavyweights.Rocky might be able to slip his jab and get inside, but once there he would be manhandled imo.Very very few heavyweights under200lbs could consistently be competitive with the modern heavies imo .I would exclude Rocky from that short list because he wasn't particularly quick of either hand or foot , or especially defensively adept. For example I would give Dempsey a better chance because he was quicker into range had better handspeed and was more elusive in his crouch.Just my opinion.

Marciano was slow as thick dirt at 185. What's he going to be with 35 pounds added to that tiny frame?

Fury actually is pretty damn fast. I am old enough to remember basically all the important trainers in this sport commenting on this a few months ago. And the holes in Fury's technique can be exploited.... by opponents with much better range (foot speed and reach).

And if you think one punch from the Lilluputian Marciano is going to to take out Fury, can I remind you of this moment when a real man hit him with two huge punches?

Hi Seamus, Macca, I actually meant to say that if Rocky had the same physical dimensions and frame as Tyson ( which he doesnt as Mike has longer reach and a much heavier bone structure, look at Tyson's head shape and wrist and ankle size) that he might be able to give Fury a hard night and I stand by that comment. I didnt actually mean that you simply whack 35 pounds of muscle onto his frame as he would resemble a Mr Olympia contestant, not a fighter.

Fury has decent hand speed when throwing his one-two combination but to me he is no speedster as far as his body movements and foot speed go and he can tend to fight like a cowboy at times.

What he does have is an educated pair of feet in that he knows how to fight moving backwards and he knows how to draw someone onto a counter and well as being able to fight moving forwards ( see Wilder 2 and the Cunningham fight ). Tyson isnt in what I would call great shape, but being a natural fighter he knows how to conserve his energy.

I dont think Wilder can fight much at all, so I don't get too carried away with what Tyson accomplished against the over hyped American.

Johnny McDermott was very unlucky to not get the nod over Fury in their first fight ( I realise Tyson was an eight fight novice then )

It did show that Tyson can have problems with a shortish brawling type but to be fair he beat Chisora fairly easily in the rematch unlike their first fight which was competitive. Then again David Haye took Chisora out with one punch and looked a lot better than Fury did against the Zimbabwean cum Englishman. haye dominated him.

So far Fury has beaten an elderly Wlad K in what was a real snoozer of a fight , Wilder ( twice in my opinion ) and not much else. He looked crap against Otto Wallin.

I never said that the enlarged Marciano would take Fury out with one punch, that's you misquoting what I wrote. All I said was that Fury is very susceptible to being hit with the overhand right which McDermott and Cunningham proved. Fury was also one punch decked and had a fair bit of difficulty against Neven Pajkic who is about six ft 2 in shoes and who is much cruder and in my opinion slower than Marciano was.

You seem a bit fired up mate, I suggest a nice cup of tea and some good lovin as that tends to calm me down in times of stress :)

    Cheers Matey.

Cunningham is 6'3" 210lbs and has an 82 inch reach, because he managed to reach Fury''s chin is no guarantee that 5'10.5" 185lbs 68" reach Rocky would.
McDermott is 6' 3"and weighed 253lbs for the first Fury fight, he also had 30 fights under his belt to Fury's 7.Fury stopped him in the rematch .
I place no importance in these fights whatsoever when it comes to evaluating Fury's chances against a very small cruiser who had a tendency to cut.
ps Pajvic is listed as 6'3" and weighed 232lbs ,he floored Fury in the 2nd ,Fury floored him twice in the 3rd for the stoppage.
Pajvic was 16-0-0 and was Furys 16th fight .
Marciano's 16th fight was against a guy 181lbs 18-7-0 who had lost his last 2 fights, and would retire after this one.

It’s not just teaching, though it’s taking the supplements, training and dieting in a way that was not possible before. Historically The advantage of being a bigger heavyweight just could not be realised in the way it can now. Today strength training and body building and PEDs get more out of giant fighters. Making them viable.

Under traditional methods To utilise extra strength, stamina suffered. The amount of running required to develop satisfactory base level stamina reduced weight, so giant fighters either gassed out if they were too big or were too weight weakened to do themselves justice. Boxing training had limitations of what it could physically achieve.

PEDs and bodybuilding gets around all of that.

I used to think that too but watch him against the 6 1’ Cooper ( who I have met) and there is very little between them.
Watch him against the 6’4 Bugner and even the American commentary notice the more than the listed inch between them.
Also big George was a inch taller than him in the jungle and he was always listed as 6’3 in his first career anyway.

I'd say Ali was nearer 6'3" than 6'2", but the three times I've seen him I wasn't that near.both Tyson and Frazier were under 5'11" I'd guess from being with a few feet of them.Bugner was all of 6'4" I sat next to him, he's huge.
