You don't think Kessler and Calzaghe were the two best at 168 when they fought? Hopkins had dominat wins over Pavlik and Tarver right around the same time he fought Calzaghe. I don't get your logic?
Kessler was a fantastic win, but people were still making the argument for Ottke at the time. He could've fought him he didn't. You asked why he had so much hate. This is why.
I agree. But it happens a lot. Jones and the WBO champion ( I won't even try to spell his name)! Bowe and Lewis are another pair. Don't be surprised if Crawford and Spence don't fight in their primes.
That was a disaster of a stoppage against Peter Manfredo. He was punching gloves, thin and threw in a couple of those trademark karate chops. Peter Manfredo ducked twice in a row successfully and then Terry O'Connor stepped in. Ludicrous.
Don't forget that Joe wasn't calling out Snaggletooth all the time long before they actually did get it on, he didn't agree on the spot to B-Hop's concessions and to fight him over in the US when they finally could manage to entice B-Hop to the negotiating table and I mean both back in 2002 and 2008, and his promoter didn't offer B-Hop a career high payday which the later surely would've accepted had he done so, right? lol Big Frank badgered B-Hop so hard about that fight back then that it got to the point that B-Hop refused to answer his calls. Not sure why this video is no longer available to view in the UK given how old it is and how it was still viewable up until recently, but a reporter posses the question to B-Hop as to why he was taking the fight now and not years earlier after numerous attempts to make it happen from Team Calzaghe had been turned down and B-Hop's response says it all. Ottke retired in 2004. Kessler and Calzaghe fought in 2007. I would have liked to have seen Calzaghe fight Ottke but I believe it is not Calzaghe's fault that it did not happen. Ottke's promoter would not let him near Calzaghe. They were making too much money calling all of the shots in Germany. Too me, Joe more than proved him selves with wins over Kessler, Bika, Mitchell and Hopkins.
I think he was shy and hid it with cockiness, but I don't know your situation mate, he could've been a knob with you..
Golden this is..Hopkins new the conservative fouling way was the way to make it ugly and try and disrupt Joe and he still lost. Young Hopkins has way more openings, I actually think Joe does him clearer if its any earlier
I don't see the relevance. Calzaghe had the option to go to Germany, it takes two to tango, that's why they're both shitbags. You know Calzaghe had some pretty shady decisions and finishes, right? I mean B-Hop was one of them... Some people still say he won that fight (B-Hop). Some of those were good wins, but he also fought a lot of Ottke leftovers. I'm not trying to change your opinion of Calzaghe. You asked why some people don't rate him, what i've told you, are just a few of the reasons why.
I liked watching his style, he was slick and quick as hell. His cardio and volume were insane, up there with the best ever if not the best. He was awkward and his shot selection late on in his career was to prevent his hands from breaking. He was still a dangerous fighter needless to say.
@Serge, wheres that vid gone , Del boy needs putting right on Hopkins, like video evidence levels of putting right, the kind of evidence that leads to convictions and corrections
BHop didn't really win though, he spoiled and he fouled too much, tough tits. He should've thrown more if he wanted to win. Byron Mitchell was the only leftover of Ottke's there that is mentioned and he was robbed twice against him. Calzaghe knocked his ass out in the second. That's the difference in quality.
Excellent accurate post. The best adaptability ive ever seen in a ring, up there with Mayweather and any of them. To change your style so much to accommodate your hands is a very talented thing to do imo, to have the room to change your talent when somethings broken is very special. Calzaghe was special
