6 2", Norton and Foreman were both taller than him, Holmes too, they were 6 3", I think Holmes might be a shade over 6 3" to be accurate. Angelo Dundee stated Ali was 6 2"
Why does this forum have to get so botchy(with an i)? You guys are attacking each other over a misunderstanding. Honestly I think Usyk right now is bigger than prime Ali. The comparisons are being made because cruiserweights now would've been heavyweights then. Usyk cuts weight to get to the cruiserweight limit of 200lbs.
You are right about Henry Cooper, but he did get cut, not as bad as he did in the rematch in 1966, I saw it live on tv back then.
Its crystal clear isn't it...Lets see what Usyk does at Heavy ? Why ? Hes already fought men Ali's size and imo bigger. Gassiev is a good bit bigger than Joe Frazier, so's Breidis. Its a level playing field matching them up weight wise. Im surprised this is an obstacle in this comparison, im gonna be rude and say its thick as ****
Pure nonsense! You post is pure nonsense. Talking out of your ass. You are actually saying that the 3rd round is when Ali would start showboating? And you know this because? You know nothing factual, just conjecture, nothing more. Acting like what you say is based in fact. SMFH.
The one who beat 3 generations of HWs including the strongest era or the guy who got bruised up by a mechanic off the couch in his only HW contest. Tough!
The one that had to cheat to beat Henry Cooper? Okay then. He was clearly able to be caught and back then he wasn't as notoriously tough as he was later on. Usyk with his brilliant movement with a high guard and combination punching ability, plus his adaptability would make it a very hard fight for Ali.
He had dementia pugilistica and parkinsons. That not your traditional Alzheimer's which wasn't the cause of Ali's failing health at all.
I didn't say the score was close. Usyk wore the damage from that fight. Now imagine a competent person of that size hitting him. He isn't an evasive genius like Loma. He wins on pace and there's going to be a lot of opportunities to get hit by big punchers. That doesn't mean he'll lose to them all of course. He already beat Joyce in the amateurs I'm just saying we need more data.
Usyk is a tremendous athlete and IMO, he has already fought much better people than Ali fought in the 60s. Ali fought in the 60s at a time when his opposition was smaller, slower. Usyk would be something he had never experienced. Usyk is a well conditioned, fast, tall, southpaw. He has seen it all at the top level of amateur fighting and in his Cruiserweight career. If he loses to Tyson Fury or Hrgovic, that wouldn't influence my opinion on how he would do against Ali, Frazier, etc. Usyk is going to be giving up a lot of size to men who have been boxing a long time and also have a lot of good amateur experience. If Ali of 67 could fight Usyk of 2020, I'd bet on Usyk, Ali would be stepping up in class against a guy as big and fast as he is who is arguably better conditioned and the best big southpaw in history.
He was not actually damaged in that fight badly, or even close to badly. Chazz Witherspoon, if he can do anything, he can really punch. Usyk was barely tagged and definitely not caught clean at any point. His movement and combos were impeccable, albeit he hadn't really stepped up the pace fully before Witherspoon called it quits.
