Woah GGG is the greatest middleweight of the century? Are you daft or did you forget that Bernard Hopkins exists or something? The man is barely above Derevyanchenko and Jacobs so I doubt he's any better if not worse than Pirog.
I wouldn't put Golovkin there. Might not even put him above Canelo. The guy didn't land enough of the meaningful fights. Was old by the time he did. He's in the discussion certainly. Pirog is not. At all. Jacobs taking 4 and 5 rounds off GGG and Canelo is greater than anything he ever did.
GGG and Canelo had very similar fights against Jacobs in terms of how close they were but you see Pirog never made it a close fight with anyone. He had the ability to beat all of them convincingly. He always looked his best in his big fights. I know someone would have beaten him but I don't think GGG was that guy.
Hard to take seriously anybody using 23 year old Jacobs as a reference point. He'd gotten his **** rocked by Ishe Smith repeatedly a year prior. By the time he fought GGG and Canelo he was a grown ass man who had built his entire style around not getting knocked out again. To his own detriment some would say. You accuse me of being ignorant of boxing but are willing to extrapolate success against subpar competition into dominating a field of hall of famers. Preposterous.
I think GGG would probably decision him. He was more active back then and Pirog didn't really set the fastest pace, pirog also didn't usually take guys out despite the Jacobs fight.
Canelo had a much easier time with Jacobs than GGG did. Canelo schooled and dominated Jacobs whereas GGG went life and death with Jacobs. Almost everybody agreed that Canelo beat Jacobs comfortably whereas many people argued that Jacobs deserved the decision over GGG.
But he was, he was being made to look useless in there at times. Pirog was clearly winning most of the rounds before he stopped Jacobs. Never heard of hometown scoring? Even the WBO president was shocked to see Jacobs stopped and not in a good way. He really wanted the American boy to get him that money.
Did you watch the fight then? I've seen it, oh I dunno, a dozen times at the very least. Pirog made Jacobs miss and made him pay with clean shots. Jacobs had won a round and made another one close, but the rest of the fight he was outboxed and obviously in the fifth it resulted in a brutal KO.
I don't see how Jacobs could've been ahead vs Pirog. That said, Jacobs had cancer. Hard for me to take Jacobs vs Pirog and Jacobs vs GGG and make any sort of comparison. Also, while I don't normally like to engage the trolls, almost everybody agreed that GGG beat Canelo twice.
