The fighters on this vid weren`t moving their heads before Bowe throws the jab so he could easily predict where to throw his long jab, they should have been moving their feet, gloves or head to keep him guessing, was Bowe`s jab overrated because of the lack of defensive prowess his opponents had? Mark, I truly believe you are insane. Did you really just say Riddick Bowe's jab is overrated because his opponents in the above video lack defensive prowess?
Name the fighters that were good defensively on that vid, Holy was good at evading hooks but admitted Foreman hit him more than Tyson because he threw more straight punches, their head movement was stationary on that vid you can see that.
For starters Evander Holyfield WAS a very good defensive fighter. If he wasn't he never would have been as decorated of an Amatuer/Professional fighter. Larry Donald, Micahel Dokes, Hebie Hide and Buster Mathis Jr. were all very solid defensively. Jesus Chist this is just an insanely stupid conversation to have with you since you really don't have any idea what you are talking about. Did Bowe have the best jab in the history of the sport? No! But he was an incredible fighter and I guarantee you he threw a Jab better than some internet troll that has zero and I mean zero true experience with the sport. Hell Buster Mathis Jr was never one of the best guys in his era but he was slippery as hell. Watch some YouTube videos of him fight and tell me he didn't move his head. ****ing garbage post from you! I'm pissed myself for taking the bait!
Bowe had an excellent jab. Heavy, long, and surprisingly fast--he could use it to score points, hurt people, or disrupt his opponents' attacks when they tried to close the distance, forcing them to reset. Possibly one of the most underrated jabs in heavyweight history (I've seen people here claim that it wasn't even as good as Primo Carnera's!!).
I sparred as a kid a few times in a gym, but though the kids I sparred with were heavyhanded for their ages none of them jabbed well because they had little experirience, Dokes wasn`t rated in the top 10 when Bowe beat him instead of fighting Lewis, Dokes head movement and guard were poor in that bout.
None of the jabs on this vid would have hit a fighter like Sanchez, he constantly moved before his opponent got off, head moving feet the lot, far better defensively than any fighter featured on this vid.
Mark. Take a break from here please. All you are doing is upsetting people with your off the wall opinions. Go outside and get some fresh air, maybe discuss the merits of lockdown with your local neighbourhood police. You could show them some videos on your phone.
While Bowe did have a very good jab. His biggest weakness was not using it enough and not doubling it up. Bowe was a great inside fighter and wanted to break everyone down that he faced. But he really gave up his height and reach advantages by not jabbing more.
His hook got wider after he won the title along with his waistline. Your right though when he was on the way up he had all the punches in the book.
