    You are correct. That's another bogus "fact" Mr. Ra's Al-Ghul has come up with, hot on the heels of his work in the Fury-McDermott thread. I was pretty sure Byrd was the #2 at the time Vitaly and Corrie squared off. I did mean to verify it when I typed my reply, but it slipped my mind. Well caught.

    I am not the guy who overruled the combined wisdom of the sport's intelligentsia by denying the existence of the heavyweight lineage from history. I cast no aspersions on your education, it's your comprehension and your intellectual integrity I wonder about.

    Fourteen words, man. That's as far as I got.

    Anyway. As you were.

    He obviously didn't. For the people who count the Wilder robbery, then you'd even have to count someone like Schultz a former and lineal champion, who finally lost it against Wlad, succeeded by Sanders, who lost it to Vitali.
    Boxing history is waaaay too tricky to open that can of worms.

    While we were arguing in the other thread i agree on this one with you.
    Fury will put very solid resume if he beats AJ, Whyte and Usyk. As for Wilder goes, he already beat him 2 time, so i don`t care that it was officially a "draw", everyone knows it wasn`t, just like everyone knows that LL beats Holy twice.

    The real question here is not whether Fury's claim to the linear title is legitimate or not. It categorically is and he is the lineal champion and no historian or boxing aficionado will take anyone who begs to differ seriously. The real question is why in god's name does The Ring Magazine refuse to acknowledge the ''King of the Gypsies'' title in their rankings and why have generation after generation of so called ''greats'' and ''legends of the sport'' been allowed to get away with avoiding fighting for the most prestigious and legitimate title in all of combat sports and earning their stripes against the true baddest men on the planet?

    Klirschko fights for the Ring belt against place no.3 Chagaev in 2009

    #1 Wladimir Klitschko
    #2 Vitali Klitschko
    #3 Rulsaln Chagaev

    Sanders was out of the ring over a year and had failed to makes fights with Roy Jr and Laymen Brewster during that time. When the fight with Vitali came around he was place no.3.

    Tyson Fury won the lineal and WBA/IBF/WBO/IBO belts by beating Klitschko. He won the WBC by beating Wilder. He's Ring champ. He's won every major HW belt in the ring beating the belt holders at the time and not lost them in the ring. That's the most important part to me, official defenses or not.
    I hope he can stick around to make a few defences from now on, but whatever.

    Chris Byrd was rated #2 and Corrie Sanders was rated #3 by The Ring in their 2003 year-end ratings, before Lennox Lewis announced his retirement in February of 2004. Fact.

    Furthermore, in searching for The Ring's last update prior to the Byrd-Golota and V. Klitschko-Sanders bouts (which took place a week apart in the latter half of April 2004), I have only been able to find a reference to an April 16 update which placed Chris Byrd at #2 and Corrie Sanders at #3.

    Can anyone produce an update dating to the week between April 17 and April 24 which places Sanders at #2 and Byrd at #3?

    If not, it would appear that Byrd was The Ring's #2 rated heavyweight at the time of Vitaly Klitschko's meeting with Corrie Sanders.

    All of which is irrelevant to the lineage, because;

    Though some may confuse the two, the lineal title is not The Ring title (which disappeared for more than a decade while the lineage continued). Fact.

    Vitali Klitschko was never recognized as the lineal champion. Fact.

    Wladimir Klitschko was widely recognized as the lineal champion between 2009 and 2015. Fact.

    Fury is widely recognized as the current lineal champion. Fact.

    Don't let's get upset now.

    What evidence is there that Wilder is one of his chief rivals? The only top 10 heavyweights Wilder has beaten are Stiverne and Ortiz.

    For all we know Philip Hrgovic and Daniel Dubois are better than Wilder.

    The fact that the vast majority of the sport's media and fanbase perceived him to be so?

    The media and fans were calling for Joshua to fight Wilder two years ago (while Fury was still out) because Wilder wasn't his chief rival?

    Any guy perceived to be among the top few fighters in a division is supposed to fight the other perceived top few guys.

    Tyson Fury is still the lineal champion. Let's not get antsy now.

    ^ Excellent interview from 2012, touches on the political agenda against Fury that continues to this day, also touches on the origins of the British boxing establishment's favoritism of David Price over Fury (which continued into the pros).

    @Perkin Warbeck, I timestamped a part I think you'd especially appreciate.

    You'll have to pardon me, I've rather hijacked your thread and restyled it as the BF24 Fury Bandwagon Thread.
