It was an awesome example. Ali was only one fight away from winning the title. And I’m pretty sure Bert hit harder than Henry
The prime (George fight) Holy was a very great fighter. But he at times struggled with George and got rocked mightily during several rounds. The younger Foreman would have capitalized on hurting Holy in the second and it would have been brave but futile fight from Holy until he got dropped and stopped in the fourth (at the latest). Please understand that I do consider Holy to be overall a higher ATG, but he wasn't built to take prime George's ugly assault. George would have done like he did Norton and batted away/smothered most of his shots. Even in his amazing prime Holy had to use combinations to hurt George at all, and the latter's cross-armed defense at the time was one of the tactical mistakes that helped him lose that fight imo. It left Foreman in a bad position to counterpunch. The classic George's fight plan involved using his height to bully fighters, knocking off punches violently, pushing them off until they were off balance while he got set... In this case, the good big man would overwhelm the good smaller man. I love Holy, but he couldn't have stood up to it.
I agree, except I think the Holy-beating Bowe would have given BG major problems. Ultimately I see George winning a unanimous decision, but he would go down once. Bowe's overhand right tended to do quite well against tallish opponents, and that was one of BG's Achilles' heels. It would be far more interesting as a boxing match than, say, the Lyle Foreman fight, because Bowe had one of the top five or six heavyweight jabs imo. But George would definitely stagger him many times in the fight, with Bowe taking way too many punches. Edit: Though I originally saw George winning a decision, that rarely happened in BG's prime, so I'm a bit undecided as to the outcome, though confident he would win. Bowe would be ready to fight all night, but the ref might start seeing him getting hit with way too many punches and unpopularly stop it in by the sixth round, with both the fans and Bowe protesting heartily. One of the most interesting things about this fight would be the intimidation factor; George would balefully stare the hell out of Bowe, but Bowe just wasn't one to be scared in the ring.
I am leaning towards George but I would never count Holyfield out. Evander did defeat other good big men in Bowe and Lewis (I thought Evander edged the 2nd fight)
I agree., I thought he won one of those Lewis fights (though way past his prime)….however, I thought he lost the 2nd Bowe fight by two points. I agree with Bowe in that I don't think Holy ever beat him. The 2nd fight was a close fight, but at the very least I thought the benefit of a doubt should have been given to the Champ at the time.
I love the thought of Bowe facing off against young George! Both guys really going for it with the eyeballing lol. Bowe would probably lean over and slap George around the chops!
The funny thing is exactly the reverse, trying to insinuate that this fight was like a one sided beating.and the truth is that a peak holyfield fought 2 competitive fights against Old Foreman and Old Holmes. Prime vs prime he gets smashed by Foreman and schooled by Holmes
Competitive absolutely. Just the fact that old Foreman at 42 did hurt him and lasted 12 rounds trading blows with him said alot about this fight prime vs prime.
. It says that George Foreman can punch and has a helluva beard. ....Holyfield is never gonna knock George out or out brawl him ...but could he out box him ?
