Did Abel Sanchez really say with a straight face getting paid less $10 million was insulting?

    do you truly believe that?

maybe promotors back in the day. Not head trainers

Because they train multiple fighters. That's free enterprise, learn to love it.

Fighters also have the opportunity to go on to become trainers, passing their knowledge down and making more money in addition to whatever they earned in the ring. What they learn from a trainer affords them much opportunity.

You will prise the golden, immaculately honorable, peerlessly heroic image of Golovkin from the cold, dead fingers of his followers.

I don't think there was a contract. It's probably per fight basis. That's why there was no litigation when it ended.

Some fighters do have contracts though, usually signed unwittingly. Tyson is such an example who signed a lifetime contract with Rooney and got sued for it.

Not a lot is known about the payment arrangements. What I know is mostly from public disagreements between trainers and boxers. But even Roach acknowledged that he's going to get a flat fee if the fighter makes a lot of money. This is referenced here:

    https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-2005-aug-28-sp-trainers28-story.html

Roach accepts that the standard trainer’s cut is not always going to be applied. “If the purse is $8 million, you are not going to get 10% of that,” he said. “So you negotiate a flat fee.”

I've seen talk of a contract in articles. But, if was a per fight thing, Golovkin's within his rights to walk away. Happen he feels he's learned all he can and wants to save as much dough as possible for his family.

Ay, not all fighters are going to sign a contracts that commits them to a trainer for the long-term.

Did Abel get 10% for those two Canelo fights? That's a lot of money.

He's looking out for himself. I would do the same. Do I think GGG could be a bit more generous? Yes, he could have given Sanchez a bit more, maybe about $400,000 to $500,000 per fight. But Sanchez was NEVER going to get 10%.

Poor Sanchez, only earning a couple million. A meager paycheck of a few hundred thousand a year.

Out of curiosity, did Sanchez get 10% for the Canelo fights? Because Golovkin made 7 million base over two fights, and that's not chump change (or maybe it's seen as chump change on these pages, as boxing forums are typically populated by Rockefellers).

As I say, if there's no contract to breach, Golovkin's within his rights.

I don't know, but he probably got 10% for those fights. That's a minimum of $700,000 per fight. Sanchez probably made over $2 million for those fights. I think that's when GGG saw the numbers and decided to re-negotiate.

couple million over what 6 fights? When your business partner essentially makes 98 million. Ok. I get it. GGG is the one getting punched.

but 10 years of training. At this rate GGG will have to fight to 40. 2 million dollars over 3 years, plus tax, plus his expenses. It’s pretty poor for a trainer of an supposed elite fighter

I don't get it, if he's still asking for 10% what's the issue. Yeah he's making a lot more money but so is GGG? Abel Sanchez along with being his trainer has also been his mouthpiece and an effective one too.

Well, he knew the numbers he'd be making before the fights. Could be that was his paying off whatever debt he felt he owed to Sanchez.

Personally, I find Golovkin a dour, hypocritical, whining, miserable man, albeit a very good prizefighter. But I can't blame him for wanting to keep extra money for his kids, if there was no contractual obligation to keep paying Sanchez that 10%.

And now Sanchez is making zero off GGG.

I have a hard time feeling bad for these guys only making millions. Especially when Sanchez didn't back his fighter after Canelo (probably closer to the real reason), and Sanchez was the one making drama about the split.

Re. my earlier remark about Leonard and Dundee, I refreshed my memory. Turns out that Angie's contract had expired after Benitez, I can't knock Ray in that instance any more than I can knock Golovkin (assuming he wasn't contracted).

My interest in this thread is primarily amusement at the fact that Sanchez used to be a sage among Golovkin fans and is now a nobody know-nothing slimeball bum.
