    Groan.

This feels like when George Foreman said Mike "the Giant" White could become a world champion, and Larry Merchant said NO GEORGE. Mike White will never be the heavyweight champion.

Mike Hunter was a fringe top 20 contender.

Let's not blow him out of proportion, TOO.

Watch the Mike Hunter vs Marion Wilson fight and get back to me.

Hunter probably wasn’t at belt holder level in the talented 1990s but he was definitely better than Mike “The Giant” White. If Hunter could’ve bumped in to one of the lesser belt holders he may have been a puzzle they couldn’t solve.

I think this was supposed to originally be Biggs - Tubbs. Hunter came in as a late replacement and STILL made Biggs look badddddddd

When I say it could have been, I speak if he had dedicated 100 % to boxing, the reality is that he was on drugs and alcohol. He also beat several good fighters.

Anyway, between 88 and 94 I am sure he deserved to be a top 10 in more than a year, he was robbed but he beat an undefeated Botha, he beat an undefeated and promising Thunder, he beat youngers fighters in Buster Mathis jr, Zolkin and Mccall and some veterans Pinklon Thomas, Qawi and Biggs. Nothing bad

Good Post. Unless my memory is failing me I believe the night that he beat Pinklon Thomas on that same card (in the main event) Booker T Word smoked Anthony Hembrick in his hometown in one round. Hembrick had this whole dance routine he was doing in ring prior to the intros and then he got annihilated in the 1st round!! what an awesome Ko!!

Goes to show that those muscles weren't just for show. He had functional brute strength and good solid punching power no matter how much you want to criticize his career.

McCall actually beat the best he faced, though.

Yeah, he could have said Lennox Lewis but he beat him as well.
Apart from that, of fighters he only LOST to, Buster Douglas would be the best, in my estimation.
But the Holmes choice makes a lot of sense.

Yes, but in this case it seems sincere rather than a case of ego. He says after all that Holmes only was 25% of what he used to be, so it's not like he takes a lot of credit for the win.

Hunter was mostly a defensive guy, with little power. Put it to you this way, I watched Fras Botha beat him on points. Not reply a contender, more of a cult hero type for some fans. His son could be the best American heavyweight right now, and I cannot believe I typed that/
