I feel AJ`s reach is a big part of his game, how well did he use his jab and reach v Ruiz out of 10? AJ features heavily on this vid, proving he can use his jab and reach much better than some people have stated that he can. This content is protected
He did what he had to do, but it wasn't exactly a difficult night's work. 6'6'' 237lbs 82" reach vs 5'11'' 283lbs 74" reach. Maybe Anthony Joshua would have demonstrated his skills even further had Andy Ruiz been fit to compete a world title fight, but we will never know. When Andy Ruiz did get inside, Anthony Joshua seemed to freeze, but maybe he was just in utter shock that Andy Ruiz was able to get within a couple of feet of him.
No offense, but your questions don't really incite good quality discussions. You should consider asking more thought-provoking questions in the future that lead to fruitful discussions
Ruiz was a lawn Gnome on the night due to the excessive blubber. AJ was a foot taller on his tippy toes.
Some guys get praised for boxing that way, others get ridiculed. Boring to watch with Joshua , but necessary in order to win against that particular style. That strategy was devised to beat the Ruiz of the first fight and probably would have if the same Ruiz turned up. Joshua had no way of knowing Ruiz would turn up a fat slob. He had to train for and believe he was fighting the same Ruiz from NY. Every guy would fight the way Joshua did in the rematch if they could , but everybody can't. It takes good coordination , rhythm , balance and endurance to stick n move on the back-foot for 12 rounds. "Bodybuilder" Joshua has boxing ability and ring IQ he doesn't always get credit for.
Because someone like Tony Tucker can make it look beautiful. AJ on the other hand looks like a stiff robot with a hot rod up his arsenal
Joshua stuck to his gameplan, the central planks of which were his advantages in height and reach. Due to Ruiz's lack of condition AJ was never out into a position where he needed plan B.
He fought on the outside like the big man should aka in the way teddy atlas' promotes the taller rangier guy should Lemme tell you about this, between that fight and the second fight, there was not that much time to make adjustments. That's why HEART comes into play. Aj showed a ton of it. Do you think he wanted to lose those extra pounds? Do you think he wanted to dance all night? Do you think he wanted to not throw his big punch? Do you think he necessarily wanted to box flawlessly? If you were to say no, then that's the definition of heart, doing what you don't want to do just to get the win. And he also did not run his mouth, making us stupid fans think that he was scared. It was the opposite, he was humble and he never let anybody know his true intents. The way Ruiz reacted was unclassy why? 1 he said he shoulda listened to his dad and his trainer about laying off the food. Sure he knew that already! 2 he said he was getting too weak with the weight loss so they let him rebound again. Who's fault was that? Again Joshua had to lose a lot of weight he probably didn't like that either. 3) Ruiz forgot that boxing fans are merciless. We demand reasons not excuses, but I guess it's ok for him ok instead of just taking the L wasn't the better man that night, and that's it.
I m not sure i was that impressed with joshua tbh. Done what he had to do....but i dont quite buy the joshua has plan a and plan b route to win that some people do. Joshua could only fight that way when he lost weight....done a lot more stamina work in training camp for it to be effective. Instead of having plan a and plan b he really only has plan a or plan b. He has to decide before the fight before training camp begins. That alone is a good thing to have....its not exactly plan a and plan b tho. Good on him getting the win. But changing his style up that much for ruiz....doesnt look great for the future. He should have been pushing ruiz back that first fight. Got away with it against a 74 inch reach guy who was out of shape in the rematch but what happens against someone bigger...quicker on his feet. I m not sure it ends well. All credit to him getting the win tho....probably decent tactics for that fight...but need to revert back imo. Just needs to improve tho. Less constant coaching and let him think for himself more. Still think they sometimes overcoach guys instead of letting ghem learn and become better for it. Khan was the same. Needed constant talking through a fight. Never improved because of it. Joshua seems the same...being willing to learns a brilliant thing...you still need that balance tho.
