Great one. Kevin made me some nice coin on the stoppage that night.

Incidentally, not what the OP is looking for, but Mitchell dished some good one-way schoolings in addition to the excellent two-way wars he was in. The Prescott and Estrada clinics were things of beauty.

Mitchell was a great fighter, shame he didn’t live the life. His fight vs Linares was a belter too

Real shame, too much squandered talent. I didn't think Warren seasoned him that well, either, to be fair, certainly not if he was to be tossed in with an animal-like Katsidis in his first taste of true world level. Guy of Michael's type was never going to give Kevin an opportunity to settle into his work and shake off any inhibitions/nerves.

I remember Mitchell having a horrible time with Walter Estrada on a Pavlik undercard. Just scraped his way out of that one after being popped almost at will and busted up, then sheepishly revealed in the Setanta post-fight interview that he'd had no southpaw sparring while Warren looked on like a fuming father whose kid just got caught shoplifting and brought home by the cops. I just got the impression that Warren wasn't paying his charges enough quality attention.

Warren put too many eggs in the Amir basket in those days, to the detriment of the rest of his stable. I always thought that was the seed of his unseating as Britain's top promoter. Many of his other good boys were waiting around, treading water, getting restless. Khan backfired on him, leaving him for the US, and Warren was then left with a bunch of disgruntled clients who were open to Hearn's overtures.

Yeah, there has always been that connection with West Ham. Kevin Mitchell drew most of his support from their crowd although I've never seen or heard of trouble at his fights.

Any Jamie Moore fight you can find footage of will be a forgotten classic or exciting performance. That guy was always great to watch, like the Uk version of Arturo Gatti. If he'd have had a Hearn or Warren promoting him I think he'd have won a world title,Maloney did a poor job he should've got him a world title shot.

Him vs Matthew Macklin, Ryan Rhodes, Michael Jones trilogy, Andrew Facey x 2, etc

No, I do not think this is forgotten, what is though is the fight that highlighted Davey Boy to the beeb in the first place: McAuley/McDermott was brilliant, but is forgotten because it supported McGuigan/Pedroza.

I always have a soft spot for the night on Second's Out, when the then unbeaten Nicky Piper's opponent pulled out, so he agreed to same day substitute in a catchweight contest, against some young journeyman named Carl Thompson...

Great post. Mitchell's lifestyle meant in his first sink or swim he would struggle, if he lived the life he'd probably have done Katsidis, but given how he lived he probably needed another 2/3 fights against tough fringe world level fighters.

Warren must have felt sick between 2010 / 2011. Builds up Mitchell towards the world scene, has Murray clean up domestically to follow through once Mitchell wins the title. Mitchell loses to Katsidis, so then Murray is his next hope - feeds Mitchell to him Murray hoping that Mitchell can't be arsed anymore after a year out only for Mitchell to take Murray's unbeaten record and essentially cap them both at domestic / fringe level.

This thread (and partially the above two brits) does make me think Warren's speciality will always lie with the domestic scene. When we had regular Friday night fights, with a British / Commonwealth / Euro title fight every week or every other week, great little barnstormers like this were made. I still think its the case now, Frank puts on much better british / domestic level fights than Eddie does, who seems to prefer the international approach (which has paid dividends of course.) The issue is, is that if you are putting regular domestic fights on you need that regular tv audience.
