I was a big observer of Valero at the time, on paper Loma boxes his brains out, but fights aren't fought on paper. Pipino Cuevas was frequently outboxed but he had the hammer .Had Valero lived I doubt his longevity would have been great but he has better than a decent chance to nail Loma. He's a 3-2 underdog

Loma should outbox him, but with Valero it literally takes one punch and Loma is absolutely out cold. @Reinhardt's comparison to Cuevas is right on. Imagine if Valero landed the straight Linares landed?

And? It’s not exactly a controversial opinion. Loma UD might be the most likely outcome but Valero stoppage would be far from shocking.

Valero was fairly crude and one dimensional, he was also a complete beast and a very physical fighter not dissimilar to Salido. Nothing wrong with picking him in this match up.

No one seriously thinks Lomachenko would win here.

Anyone going against Valero is trolling. Pure and simple.

    Valero by ko.

I like Valerio but he has a basic punchers chance against the elusive Loma. Loma wins this one by putting on a boxing lesson. Shutout.

The problem is Lomachenko can be hit and Valero appeared to be a murderous puncher.

Loma is by far and away the best fighter in the world with regards to positioning and manipulating his opponent to a degree they cannot hit him with or even throw a power shot, and then when they can get off he picks it off with his high guard 99.9999% of the time.

People have been picking against Loma to get KO'd since Walters and some since GRJ. The only guy that has been able to catch him at the perfect time was Linares, who's hand and footspeed, timing and accuracy and overall skill level is amazing and far above Valero's.

There is a video on youtube of Robert Garcia talking about the sparring sessions between Loma and Maidana. He said everytime the first 3 feel out rounds would be close, and then Loma would absolutely pants him, badly. Granted that was a much younger Loma, but thats also when he was just entering the pro ranks at 126-130.

    Bolero had that equalizer.

Loma should win but Valero is dangerous at all times. Way more dangerous than a linares or Campbell.

Another case of people romanticizing what greatness a guy would have achieved "If only he was more focused and didn't [insert excuse here]" If we are looking at both fighters at the best we were able to see them, Valero loses by wipeout. He doesn't take a single round off Loma.
