Cooney Norton came to mind quickly, you're right one more shot might have killed him.

[as an aside - almost any UFC fight]

    in boxing - Briggs/Vitali?

in defence of the OP's classic example - it was horrible to see Tommy repeatedly lifelessly bouncing off the ropes vs Mercer but it did happen quickly & was at least initially hard for the ref to see exactly what was going on. [btw Mercer's one my favourite fighters]

I thought Creed v Drago was allowed to go on too long. Felt for Balboa left clutching that towel...

He's bent over double offering nothing, it's clearly stopped too late.

Thanks for the kind words, my man. Reading it back, I see I didn't really communicate it very well.

If you saw Bailey's bout with Warrington, you'll have noticed he's not the type of journeyman to just tuck up and give you rounds, he comes to fight, has ambition. That one was one-sided in the scoring, but he makes a fair scrap of it.

He came with the same ambition when I saw him, but he wasn't able to do anything except show how much moxie he had. Samir was dancing rings round him, getting off first and hitting him with sharp, clean spiteful shots he couldn't see from around the corner. Bailey was one of those guys who recovered well, so he might look sickened by a punch for just a split second before catching himself and moving forward again, rinse/repeat. Mouneimne would stand back and admire his work and other times he'd follow up, but his pop was always just shy of enough to properly hurt him.

Foster's failure to note how uncompetitive the visitor was (except in spirit) and how bad a beating he was absorbing was some of the most incompetent officiating I've seen. Bailey didn't have enough to gain to justify not stepping in, and he wasn't getting paid enough for the rate at which his head was being hammered on.

When Foster stopped Groves, I thought back to that fight, and it immediately clarified it as a Matchroom stoppage (saying that as a Froch guy). Never had time for him since then.

One of the best things I've ever read about this sport.

This is Roid allegedly ''hurting'' (and that's exactly what some claimed at the time) Lebedev

Watch it in slow motion (not that you really need to if you've actually been blessed with the gift of sight)

That fight was stopped at the perfect time. In fact, it was too early if anything.

I'm confused about what the two sides are arguing over here.

Roy was basically out of it from the right hook onward. Smoger could have jumped in right there, certainly didn't need to let Roy take the very last one.

I have no problem with the stoppage I just would've liked to have seen the ref give Denis the opportunity to sneak one more in as Roid was on his way down.

I'm countering this nonsense re. Roid allegedly hurting Lebedev with that shot that landed on his gloves as their lead feet got tangled up shortly before Denis made him pray to him and put him to sleep lol.
