Something that has always baffled me is how physically large George looked during his prime years despite his official weight at the Rumble in the Jungle being a mere 220lb (15st 10lb). Compare that with other fighters with the same height: 1. Buster Douglas vs Tyson (231lb) 2. Razor Ruddock vs Lewis (231lb) 3. Shannon Briggs vs Lewis (228lb) 4 Frank Bruno vs Lewis (238lb) 5. Tim Witherspoon vs Bruno (234lb) ....the list goes on.
I don't know what you mean by that, but I was always impressed how well Max Baer handled 220 lbs frame. It's unbelievable that he could fight at various weights and always looked lean and fit.
I think he was. His shoulders and frame was very broad. Liston was another "super heavyweight" despite being 6'a 210-215. He just looked bigger.
Agreed. Both looked enormous, Foreman even more so. Foreman's power, strength and stability resembled that of someone 20 pounds heavier imo, comfortably.
George Godfrey from 1920s was similar to him. Listed at only 6'1 but with long reach and huge frame. He just didn't look like a small heavyweight, even against giant like Primo Carnera. Look at him next to Jack Dempsey (similar height and not small man at all): http://www.phillyboxinghistory.com/photos/images/godfrey_depmsey_01.jpg
Foreman i believe was also dehydrated routinely for some silly reason, so perhaps his weight is higher but i don't have any sources to back that only his words on the topic he also weighed in at 230lbs in the earliest parts of his career but was deemed too large.
Well for both Frazier fights, George weighed 217, Joe was 214, and in the 76 rematch they both weighed the same, I think 224. Frazier had a small upper body but very big legs, kinda built like Michael Spinks in a sense. Of course Spinks was taller and much leaner.
