Not of a big fan of the guy personally but you can't undermine everything he's achieved.

Robert Allen gave him a tough time,so did Eichols and Johnson at times. I don't count Taylor since he lost (on the scorecards anyway) the title.

Is a no contest a successful defence?

Aside from my snarky answer, I don't know. He had massive trouble with Mercado but that was before he won the title, not a defence.

Difficult question because he was just so dominant. No-one remotely run him close or gave him much trouble.

There's a strong possibility Hopkins feigned injury because he was losing the first Allen fight. I thought Vanderpool won quite a few early rounds

    Watch the first Allen fight

I'll give it a look. Hopkins was ahead on two cards one of them a sweep and behind by a point on the other and there's a lot of rounds to go thereafter. I'm not buying it was a get out of jail card. Vanderpool was miles behind on two out of 3 cards.

He was bit middleweight champ when he faced Winky. That fight was at a catchweight.

I always thought Allen was winning but judge for yourself by all means.

Prior to easily falling out the ring from nothing, he was not very confident to throw, chancing a pot shot here and there..I think he knew Allen was going to beat him

He re-matched him straight away and whupped him. He schooled him again years later.

I know but he wasn’t mentally up for it in the first fight
