Could Baer beat Liston? Certainly. Anyone with Baer's power has a punchers chance against anyone.

    Would he? Almost definitely not.

I reckon Max could land his greatest, hardest shot on liston s chin, and sonny would smash him back.

I gotta go with Liston. Baer looks terrible in too many fights. He was big for his era and had a big punch but against a big guy like Liston with much better skills I think Baer loses. Both at their peak I think Liston stops him around the 8th Liston wasn’t as fast Louis so it would take more time to break down the very durable Baer.

Barring something big and lucky I seriously doubt it. Liston’s polished jab combined with his reach and power would make the defensively deficient Baer and easy target. Can’t see this one going too long

If baer landed his hardest shot on liston's chin then sonny is knocked out forever

Baer was not consistent but Liston wasn't a defensive fighter and he never fought a puncher like Baer. - Liston had a very good jab but Joe Louis was superior in all area's except reach. Baer may offer some problems and gain confidence from his success.

We really can not be sure Liston could handle that kind of power.

The liston Jab could do and it had back up but could he handle the Baer right hand?

I may lean with Liston but not sure which Baer shows up-

This would be a early shut out, I cant see baer being able to do anything liston couldn't do better. Liston wins by t.k.o. before the 6th

Hmm?, I was thinking the Cleveland Williams fight also, except Sonny goes through Max like he did Cleveland in about 3 or 4.

If Liston wound up haymakers from the county line, he would be considered the biggest hitter ever. Instead, he threw his punches pretty tight and straight until his opponent was falling apart.

And he still probably hit harder than Baer.

He has a 31.29% chance of winning, yes. I've calculated this. But, full disclosure, or at least partial, another calculation gave him only 29.75% chance.

This would be an ugly night for Max Baer. Great guy, good athlete he didnt have the skill to avoid Liston's power or his big jab. Sonny lost his crown to probably the greatest heavyweight ever. Max lost to Jimmy Braddock.
Even at their respective best it doesnt change the inevitable.
