Why is Pryor regarded the best at 140? Pac, Chavez and Napoles butcher him. Hell, a prime Kid Pambele would beat him. Gomez doesn't really have a match at 122, but Morales and Fenech offers the sternest challenges imo. Aside from Jofre moving up from BW.
Greatest threat to Pryor and Gomez? I believe the correct answer is cocaine. But on a serious note, Gomez doesn't have a peer at 122. He's the consensus greatest super bantam by everyone. There's a few junior welterweights who would beat Pryor, and Aaron isn't the consensus greatest at the weight.
I would very slightly favor Morales over Gomez at Superbantam. Toughest challenge for Pryor H2H at 140 is Pacquiao and I think thats a 50/50 fight
He definitely isn't. I shudder to think what Pacquiao or Chávez would do to Argüello at 140. They wouldn't need 14 to do it either.
Pryor vs Pacquiao would be a good fight. I'd pick Pacquiao on points, but there is still a possibility in my mind that Pryor KO's him. Pryor vs Chavez? Pryor all day
It depends on the context. In regard to "greater", Chavez has some argument at 140 above Pryor, as does Barney Ross, depending on how much emphasis you put on the synthetic title he held and how you calibrate his weight. In labeled junior-welterweight fights, he had 10 defenses, defeated Canzoneri twice, became the Welterweight Champion by beating McLarnin at 137 pounds, and you could add two wins against Petrolle in there. I imagine someone could argue Abe Attell was greater than Gomez, seeing as he largely fought at 122 in championship bouts. In terms of "better", again, how far does one want to go back because it's then easy to see neither as divisional "supermen", impervious to anyone who ever fought at the weight. Could Pryor handle a 140-pound Langford, Duran, Walcott, Robinson, McLarnin, Ross, Armstrong, etc.? Could Gomez overcome Kid Chocolate, Eder Jofre, Fidel LaBarba, Terry McGovern, Young Griffo, and more? With that said, both are probably the greatest in their divisions since a more formal recognition of them.
