The cartoonish haymakers that score the highest on those instruments are very different than the types of punches that most boxers actually throw in real boxing matches though. In fact, the punches that do best on those tests are the precise kinds that boxers are trained to avoid and "unlearn." Those kinds of punches are probably very unnatural for most of them. I'd bet there are tons of random guys who've never set foot in a boxing gym who can outperform professional boxers on those tests. That's how we get results like this: This content is protected This content is protected It would probably be a very different story if you tested guys throwing standard boxing punches or something.
Welcome back. Yeah, like I said the evidence is dubious, and probably for the reasons you point out and more. That said, I would expect haymakers to favor guys who simply had more weight to put behind them. I agree that something is very fishy about those results but I can't put my finger on what.
