These two are nothing alike. Tyson banks on his range, speed and ridiculous (for a man his size) agility. And occasionally he rolls the dice and craps out. Baer is a lot closer to Wilder than Fury in style if not in effectiveness.
Several boxer but boxers not bum called Marty Marshall who was unlike guys you mentioned only a bum LHW not a HW contender like those you mentioned! Machen also outboxed him,Ali twice and Leotis Martin too! And Schaaf died from Baer hands!
It is stupid to compare Baer with Cleveland!Baer was not only stronger, harder puncher but had better chin and stamina!Baer chin is one of the best! How many times was Baer stopped? Williams was stopped by LHW Satterfield, light hitting Ali,Foster,Al Lewis... Baer was stopped against Louis and Nova! Baer is much more dangerous than Williams! He would last much more maybe win!I never saw him tired! And Liston jab is not fast as Louis and Listom himself is smaller and slower man than Louis! Listonites pulls reach but Baer had 81 inch reach so that is only 3 inches in favour of Liston!
Watched the Louis vs Baer fight earlier today. You know nothing to do in the era of Covid-19. What I saw was a fighter that caught Louis early With a good combination almost at the end of the 1st rd. Louis didn't appear to be hurt at all. Same Louis that was dropped by Galento, staggered badly by Conn. What he did do was **** Louis off, and damn near get himself KO'ed at the end of the 1st rd. Either Louis had a very selective chin or Baer didn't crack as hard as his reputation would lead one to believe. Liston at his best is a top 10 -12 heavyweight in history. I'm sure if Liston just allowed Baer to take his best shot, he could hurt, Ko him. But in a fight prime vs prime, Liston big. It wouldn't be as sensational as Louis's Ko of Baer. But Baer would be KO'ed just the same.
It is the punches that you don't see coming that knock you down/out. It is an equation between power and anticipation. Louis was obviously very wary of Baer's power, and very cautious in dealing with him. I don't mean cautious as in fighting safety first, I mean cautious as in watching his every move, and bracing himself when it was incoming. Don't doubt Baer's power for a second!
Sonny was quicker than Max. When he lands that hook It won't take more than 3 or 4 rounds. Liston's hook was as good a weapon as there was. Of course the jab is gonna take the fight out of Baer each time it lands.
Just because I go against the mainstream opinion in regards to the skill set of old time heavies doesn't mean I'm not being legitimate.
