Do boxers do anything to try and improve their chin?

Can you actually do anything to improve your chin, or is it entirely genetic?

Can breaking your jaw and making it grow back stronger help? Or chewing gum all day for example?

They would be small margins, but would anything work? Or if you are chinny, are you just stuck with it?

Holyfield would do a lot of neck exercises. Explained why his trepezius were so huge.

The only scientifically proven methods are headbutting massive anvils and you know those machines that pitch baseballs to you, like a spinning wheel thing? Well, they have one for boxers too, instead of feeding it baseballs you feed it bricks. Stand in front of one of those things for an hour, you'll have a great chin.

Genetically speaking, find a woman with a wicked butt chin and pray your kid gets her chin. The divit and angles create for a weird dynamic, like the hull of a MRAP or tank and how their angled and shaped hulls deflect IED and other bomb blasts. I swear to God, the butt chin is the Cadillac of chins in boxing. That is what you want.

Some people genuinely are more susceptible to being knocked out over others, I think most are in agreement.

however, the key to resisting flush punches to the chin is the legs. If a fighter has strong sturdy legs he will be less likely to have his brain rattled, won’t do the stanky leg and keep compusure.

I can’t think of a twig legged fighter with a good chin.

Yeah - I suggest you try it. After 5/6 times you should be packing iron.

One of the oldest sayings in Boxing is you can't put muscles on chins.

    1. Don't dehydrate is #1
    2. Commit yourself to taking any and all punishment and staying upright which sounds much easier than it is, and you always gotta have confidence in your ability to take shots. Accept you will take a lot of pain and punishment over a career and possibly degenerative Neuro disease.
    3. Over time your awareness, anticipation, vision, IQ will improve, focusing on those things in conjunction with taking a punch will help a lot. Always know what shots your opponent can throw at all times, especially what ones that he can hurt you with, in conjunction with your positioning and what youbare throwing. The ones you don't see coming........
    4. Always maintain a good base, stay disciplined and under control, don't overcomit or overreact to anything, keep your guard up, learn to roll with punches
    5. Fundamentals and technique
    6. Exercises for your neck muscles and upper traps, but like @Eggman said - especially work your legs and hips - that will improve EVERYTHING and will help more than any other muscle group overall
    7. Conditioning - lot of guys have a good chin when they have energy, but once they start getting hit, panicking, expending a lot of energy, getting beat to the body........ All if a sudden after taking flush power shots they are now getting wobbled by jabs. Once you start becoming depleted of energy, oxygen, glycogen, hydrogen, your ability to take punishment decreases significantly.
    8. Try and fight as many people and spar as many rounds as possible against any and every style, physical profile, speed, power, timing, southpaw - everything. The more experienced, tested, proven, and comfortable you are will help a ton in this regard and will give you irreplaceable confidence.
    9. Mentality - if you're gonna kick it in when the going gets tough, this is the wrong sport. If this is what you want - COMMIT to it, hop the ropes and bang it out no matter what. If you aren't willing to do that you are only wasting your time.

good post. You can only go so far with punch resistance improvement but these steps would certainly be beneficial

    1, 4and 9.

2 yes but that is, as you say, easier said than done

8- yes finding ideal weight sooner rather than later can protect against any chin checks
