I was just making a funny. Jeez...

To be honest, I ended my dalliance with that substance for a variety of reasons but first and foremost was the human toll of its trade and being complicit in it. I know many who got into it deep with the resulting permanent health problems, prison and for too many an early grave. I know I sound like an old man when I tell kids, hard drugs suck. Smoke your weed, control your booze, but powders and pills are a no-win situation.

Esteban DeJesus started with cocaine, then proceeded to speedballls, then the heroin took over.

The problem is, coke is so cheap. I’ve never tried it but apparently it’s very affordable & you don’t need to be earning sport’s stars mega-bucks to get hooked. Cocaine is an issue where l live and probably is in most towns & cities. I like a beer, but each to their own.

A common one was a diluted mixture on honey, lemon juice and brandy.

Boxers are closer to ordinary society than other professional sportsmen. With the exception of the big earning World Champions. They live in the neighbour hoods they grew up in and move among the same peer group. Because these neighbour hoods tend to be less privileged areas they are exposed to temptation and some will give in.
Leonard and De La Hoya are different in that Charlie is the recreational drug of choice for the showbiz crowd that they and some of the higher profile cases became part of.
Cocaine has been a blight on Boxing for at least 40 years. Even now we have cases like Ryan Walsh and Scott Fitzgerald who are battling to prevent the habit taking over their lives.
