As far as the Patterson fight Archie considers that his worst performance. He looked not like himself from the beginning. I wish he could have gotten a rematch to prove himeself but it never happened. Not to mention he wasn’t prime. Compare that man to the Davidson fight. No comparison in what he was. And cmon Durrell? He was what 40? Lol
The funniest thing is I was a huge fan, I remember going to see Rocky V when it came out, and I bet a guy when the Mercer fight happened 20 dollars that Morrison would win. The guy I bet told me he's "going to get his big white ass kicked!" I still remember. I remember watching the first 3 rounds feeling confident, then in the 5th Mercer smashed him. Nowadays looking back it was the best 20 bucks I lost.
Foreman in general yes. That Foreman stylistically wouldn’t run the gauntlet sorry. You really think old George beats Moore, Johnson, Baker, Nino, Bivins, Lavorante, Henry w out picking up one L? Tough task for anyone let alone a 40 plus year old man
Patterson power did that. What is Moore's age in this fantasy fight? While Archie did beat some contenders at heavyweight in the 1950's, most of them were small. There was controversy in the Valdes fight on the cards, which lead to junk being thrown into the ring. Valdes was a soft heated big man. Sure Moore in this mid to late 30's was better than some of the names at heavyweight, but we must remember, back then were was not a huge difference in weight between light heavyweight and heavyweight. Heck, the champions were in the 180-pound range. Morrison had crushing power vs. men well over 220 pounds and what I would call very good hand speed. His chin, which was an issue in the 1990s, ( the best time for heavyweight boxing ) vs. the better punchers might not look so bad when hit by a guy 180-190 pounds. Moore was not an easy KO the vs heavies, correct? That plays into Morrison hands. Some might remember when the curser weight division ( 190 pounds was created ). Some of them tried to jump to heavyweight, and the results unless your name was Evander Holyfield was often swift ending. The announcers of the time used to warn the audience not to go to the bathroom.
Tommy is one of the most over rated fighters on this forum. The man knocked out no one of importance and beat no one of importance besides old George. And he didn’t knock him out.
Moore beat a lot of men bigger then Tommy. The Marciano argument doesn’t work here. Numerous men a lot taller and heavier then Tommy.
Which one that punched as hard? Zero. None of then were 225 pounds either, more like 213-215 at the biggest. At least those who were ranked. For the most part, Moore wasn't giving up the much size, and the 1950's heavies, aside from Marciano and Patterson at the time Moore moved up to heavyweight the field was mediocre. Moore didn't score many early KO's vs heavyweights either so his power at heavyweight wasn't special, and he would need to hit hard in this fantasy match up.
Okay, that's fine. Moore didn't really KO anyone decent from 1951-1964, and those he did he stopped late. He didn't face many puncher's in this time line either, no one close to Morrison. The question to ask, is how is he going to go many rounds with Morrison? Archie did not have a good heavyweight chin, the punchers he fought showed us that. Sorry a medium punching much smaller 180-185 pound guy is not likely being Tommy Morrison. Morrison speed and power must have been forgotten here, the only fighter he has an issue landing on was Lewis, and Lewis should never be compared to Moore as a heavyweight. You needed a top heavyweight chin to beat Morrison or or you were super heavyweight HOF fighter like Lewis was. Outside of a fluke loss ( Archie has a KO 1 loss too ) that's it. Moore did not match up well vs Heavyweight puncher, period. Morrison probably had better power than either Patterson or Marciano. This content is protected
I mean, he fought Valdes, Davidson, Dunlap and Lovell - all of them were big and decent punchers too. He also fought Baker who wasn't a puncher, but was huge. Moore was extremely good defensive fighter, chin is not the only thing that could help you against puncher. Also, I wouldn't underestimate Moore's punching. You could pay a lot for that. Really? Then why did he fought nobody worth mentioning then? He should have fought better names if he was that good. He also wasn't half of the fighter Patterson and Marciano were.
