Wilder has a contractual right to the third fight however seeing how soundly he lost why does he want it?
    Does he:

    1. Really think he can win?
    2. Want the last bigger payday of his career knowing he’s been exposed?
    3. Want one last shot before he retires?
What are your thoughts on the psychology of the Bronze Bomber? Try to keep it civil.

I have always thought Wilder was delusional. There is no doubt in my mind that his handlers have really built up his mind so that he really thinks he is better than Lennox, Tyson, etc.

What is is experiencing now is called "cognitive dissonance." He now understands two contradictory things to be true, and it does not compute. In his mind, he is the greatest fighter ever, a man who punches so hard he doesn't need silly things like defense and footwork. He also knows that Fury took his best in the first fight, and beat the brakes off him in the second.

This simply does not compute. So his costume must have wore him down on the way to the ring. He was under a voodoo spell that made him a "zombie." The people saw it wasn't The Bronze Bomber in there. It wasn't even Deontay Wilder. He had coronavirus! His leg was shot. There was a bicep tear. He was terrified that the stadium was going to catch fire...or a flood...or locusts! Something happened to him in the last 15 minutes before the fight, and he doesn't know what. He thinks he knows, but he is not ready to talk about it.

To make a long story short, part of him knows he can't win, and a bigger part of him thinks he can.

No one has been a bigger critic than me, but I honestly feel a bit sorry for him. Then again, I am conflicted too, so a bigger part of me is laughing. I just hope he comes out of this a better man, saves the money he makes, realizes that it is not right to talk about killing people, and understands that there is no "Bronze Bomber" ancestor spirit, and there is no magic to help you in life. He deserves all of the credit for getting as far as he did himself, and all of the blame that he did not go as far as he could have, and made a jackass out of himself along the way.

He wants a third fight because his ego won't let it go and it's in the contract Fury agreed to. He was thoroughly embarrassed and he got his ass kicked. He has to run that back because regular folks outside of the LDBC (and most of them too) won't let him live this down if he does not. It's not like he lost on points and the decision could have swung either way, he got beat up...BAD, by a guy who spent most of 2016-2017 doing blow and getting fat.
If you are Wilder how do you look at that fight Fury had with Otto Wallin and not think you could KO him? This is a bad habit of many Haymon fighters because of those frequent overpaid showcase fights. They never learn squat from it. It's the reason why current Pound 4 Pound list from 1-10 have only 1 Haymon fighter, Spence, on it unless you now wanna credit him Pacquiao's career.
How do you go from having a stable of thoroughbreds to watching nearly every guy you have get his ass handed to him by another promotion's fighter. Hell his C level squad is whipping his A level guys too.

I believe he genuinely thinks he can win.

I've posted about the doggedness of his ego a couple of times recently. Between his heavy armour, an outbreak of the T-virus and Kenny Bayless conspiring against him he has added a new layer of lies and excuses to his delusions that have done just enough to enable him to avoid looking in the mirror and seeing a loser, and thus held back the tsunami of reality for at least one more fight.

Why do I believe this? There was a telltale signature about his behaviour (mainly boatloads of hypocrisy delectably seasoned with his unmistakable brand of cringe) and this hallmark has been indicative of his delusions of grandeur throughout his entire reign, and I've seen enough of it post-loss to posit that he has retained those delusions.

"Hello my people, my bombsquad army, my bombsquad nation, to all my loved ones around the world, I just want to let you know that I am here, your KING is here, and we ain't going nowhere, for the war has just begun. I will rise again, I am strong, I am a King, they can't take my pride, I am a warrior, I'm a King that will never give up, I'm a King that will fight to the death and if anyone don't understand that, don't understand what it is to go to war, don't understand what it is to fight, we will rise again, we will regain the title. I will be back, we will hold our heads up high, your King is in great spirit and we will rise like a phoenix from the ashes and regain the title. I'll see you in a few months for the war has just begun. All my love to all my people."

He doesn't once use the word fans, or supporters, instead self describing himself as a King (FIVE times) and choosing to address his people or subjects. All of it slathered in his aforementioned unique brand of cringe.

Does that sound like a man that's changed, or a man that's had his psyche shattered and undergone ego death? Or does it sound like the same old delusional Deontay Wilder that we know and love? The gift that keeps on giving.

    Number 1.

He definitely thinks he can win. His inability to process this defeat means he'll twist his mind into pretzels attempting to justify why he lost and why he still has a chance in the third fight. It'll make him dangerous and determined in the build up, but I think once the fight begins and he starts getting lit up again all the bad memories from the second fight will come flooding back and freeze him up, which will lead to him getting badly KOed.

I think his psychological ruination is a real thing, but that it's a subliminal one for now, as @catchwtboxing alluded to.

Gets my vote. However lacking he might be in terms of realistic ideas or a Plan B, he has faith in what he's got. That faith might have been shaken, but he'll put a Band-Aid over it and keep believing until the bell rings, Tyson starts bearing down and the flashbacks begin to hit. Any lack of belief within him will be subliminal until that moment. Wilder is guilty of a lot of things, but the cashing out mentality isn't among them. He'll try to condition himself as best he can for a knock-down, drag-out war.

Bear in mind, there were persistent accusations that Fury himself was just cashing out in the build-up to the last one. Both of these guys are fierce competitors. Nobody's cashing out.

Yeah, I definitely think there are some major subliminal doubts eating away from within which Wilder himself hasn't recognised, or refuses to recognise. I think he's a riven man at the moment, and that rift will only get wider the closer we come to fight night. I wouldn't be surprised to see some epic breakdown in the ring or even in the locker room beforehand as the truth finally hits him and begins to overwhelm his super-resilient ego.

Agreed though, he's not going to cash out. He's never shown the least inclination to dial it in in his entire career, and is likely one of the hardest working HWs in the sport right now in terms of conditioning. One of the few things I respect him for.

He'll be physically prepared if nothing else.

Fury and wilder are both cashing out
Neither will be fighting in four years time
Wilder should gone pick this strap up and hold it hostage way out west

Does this rank higher than the Blackpool tower belt ?

Excellent points have been made here, I want to add one more observation to the mix:

His entire entourage and team is made up of sycophants and claqueurs. Wilder over the years has removed anyone who criticized him, anyone who tried to make him a better fighter both physically and mentally. Anyone who disagrees Wilder is a King is gone. That's typical for narcissists. They can't handle people who even give the most well-meaning constructive criticism.

If you have no one in your team who candidly addresses your weaknesses you simply can not improve. You get disconnected from reality. That's exactly where Wilder is.

He is fighting to to attempt to salvage that AJ mega payday. The week before the rematch, there was rumors flying around that the Saudi's were looking to pay both of them 150M each to make it happen in Saudi. He is under pressure to win, likely from Haymon and Finkel so they can cash out. Also likely under the impression that his ego won't let him go out like that, guy has a huge ego.

When he looses, I think he will retire personally. I honestly don't think he will will bother going through the rankings to get his shot and risk getting smashed by the likes of Dillian and others contenders.

I think if Wilder loses the third fight he will be a case for psychotherapy. I don't see him continue fighting after that final humiliation.

The bold, it's a feature of millennial culture in general. If someone isn't kissing your ass, they're 'negative energy' or a 'toxic individual'. Positive vibes only, yo.
