Fighters you felt retired too early?

    That is not sad in my eyes.

    He had made enough money to be secure, and his family wanted him out.

    That is a good time to get out.

    A great legacy is not worth much, if you have brain damage!

    Sad yes because to me a fighter was born fighter, and there are more important things than the disgusting money

    I don't know what you meant when you said "someone like you"
    But I want to think that a fighter has another motivation besides money. Everybody need the money but it is not the most important thing

    There aren't many but Packy McFarland comes to mind. Only 27, still able to compete at a high standard, undefeated and deserving of some sort of title shot.

    He would need more than it. Better ,younger and bigger rivals. If he had beaten johnson you could argue a place for him in the top 5.

    Joey Archer - coming off two razor close defeats to Emile Griffith for the title. I wish he would have hung on a bit and tried again. He could have been right there for a go at Benvenuti.

    Rodolfo Gonzalez - plagued by weight-making at 135 he wanted to move up to 147 and challenge Jose Napoles. A bit ambitious as promoters wanted to wean him in with a few fights, but didn't wish to start over again after a long career. Personally feel he would have been better off giving it a go at 140, but then again, I don't know what he was going through to make that weight at 5'9".

    John Stracey - lost to Palomino and Boy Green, but after a layoff he came back fresh and stopped Georges Warusfal and Ring mag had a headline that said, 'Stracey is back!'. Unfortunately that was it. But he had not yet turned 28 and I thought he would have fitted in nicely with a few more good paydays and probably challenged for the title again.

    Yes, he really had an opportunity.

    Obviously he didn't know that he was up against the next 120 years of boxing history!

    That is sometimes quite old, in boxing terms.

    Especially in a lower weight class.

    Old at 28? It makes no sense. In your mid 30s ok but 20s? I disagree with this

    Good shout out. He had it with Wolgast but it was cancelled in the 11th hour .. So tragic . I still want to see it to this day
