Could the Loughran who out boxed the feared power puncher in a 6'2 210 pound Max Baer out box a 1986-88 Mike Tyson?

Really bad style for Loughran. Loughran has no firepower to keep Tyson off him and Tyson in his prime would be on Loughran like second skin once the fight starts. Loughran would suffer a repeat of the Sharkey fight, but Tyson ends him earlier.

1st round KO for prime Tyson. Big difference between Baer who really just had a big looping right hand and nowhere near the speed and combination punching of a young Tyson.

He did ask about 1986-88 Tyson. That would be prime Tyson in my book.

Max Baer had killed someone less than a year before Loughran beat him. His wild and sloppy attacks aren't comparible to Tyson's anyway. Look what Sharkey did to Loughran.

Tyson scores an early KO IMO.

To be fair to Loughran, this early stoppage was a fluke. Tommy fought more powerful fighters than Sharkey and he didn't get stopped as early.

Loughran is fascinating figure to me. He was extremely limited because of lack of right hand and weak punches, yet he was so good that could be anyone within reasonable size difference. He's arguably the best pure boxer ever in my opinion (at least at higher weight classes, I don't like comparing LHWs to LW or FW).

That said, I agree that Tyson would be too much for him. Early KO is the best bet.

I don't think it was a fluke. Sharkey KOed Delaney in a round.

I think his speed was a large part of how he KOed Loughran.

I'm thinking more about Loughran not being stopped early outside of that.
