Oleg was the better fighter but man was he chinney. I would favor him but wouldn't be shocked if he got KO'ed. Sergei was a pretty good fighter in his prime. Fought a great fight with Brewster but made a huge mistake trading with Briggs in the 12th round that cost him his belt.
I really like the Liakovich body work here. Exciting fight, but Oleg just does not do enough during a 3 minute round to get the job done. Out hustled and then fatifued from body shots, look for rsf sometime after the 8th round. Fun fight to watch.
Probably Oleg. He had a more consistent career. Liakovich had a bizarre career. He was a top 20 guy who would box tentatively, then had an ATG war with Brewster, then lost to Birggs by falling out of the ring right before the 12th round ended.
This is actually a great matchup, both guys with really weak chins. I go with Maskaev, how he beat Rahman TWICE, I'll never know!
Lyahovich is one of those guys long with Roy Jones, and Enzo Maccarlinelli who should have had their licenses revoked. All were brutally ko'd numerous times.
Whenever you mention Liakhovich this is all I can think of. Shannon "The Cannon" Briggs baby! (Go to 12:00 on the video) This content is protected
Maskaev was probably the least durable heavyweight champion of the world of all time. Only Bruce Seldon, Herbie Hide and Tommy Morrison can compete with him in such ranking. Patterson at least got up from knockdowns. Maskaev was knocked out 7 times, and most of these knockouts were downright brutal. Kirk Johnson almost killed him, Lance Whitaked knocked him out COLD with an arm punch, Corrie Sanders (not the talented South African, but US journeyman) almost decapitated him, McCall KO'ed him with a single arm punch and so on. Maskaev's chin was made from pure glass, so I won't be suprprised if Liakhovich would knock him out.
Liakhovich showed a top chin vs Brewster. That fight was a war. His punch resistance just crashed over time. I'd go with Maskev to win, as he was more consistent and hit harder but really this is close to 50.50
Thanks for the feedback guys. I always thought this fight had the potential to be a lot of fun. I'm surprised that Oleg is favored so much here in this fight, but then again, this one is tough to call, could go either way. I think either Maskaev lands a big right and ends it in the middle rounds, or, if he fails to do so, Liakhovich stops him in the 10th-11th round with an accumulation of punches that break Maskaev down and maybe even bust him up.
I'd go with Liakhovich at his absolute best. I think Oleg just had Rahmans number cause every other hitter he faced he got starched.
You thinking he stops him early or late then? Or do you think that the White Wolf doesn’t have enough pop to take out Oleg?
