Quickly edited, friend (quote function can get glitchy). Meanwhile, the story of this thread is – the contemporaneous moral consensus is never wrong.
you are entitled to believe whatever you want but I doubt Fury would duck anyone it’s just not in his character
A vacated title and inflated price to defend a title he previously said he wanted to defend multiple times whilst taking lesser fights prestige and money wise say otherwise to me but I think we've reached an impasse here, you've looked at the same things I have and come to a different conclusion. For me it's funny to see how a lot of people got it wrong at the time and I include Fury in that.
I'd guess the one fellow's comment re. Khan was the straw that broke it. Politically challenging content is pretty much frowned upon outside of here.
I don't think Fury really believed in himself at that point and I think people get caught up in how much better than Price Fury ended up being rather than how it was seen at the times. People forget that Fury had reservations about facing Ustinov. I mean, how ridiculous does that look now but he's on camera talking about being potentially stitched up by placed in the ring with a guy like that. This content is protected
I see what you mean but I took it to mean that he had been training to fight chisora then Ustinov was brought in to replace him the difference in size and styles could have been problematic after a training camp geared towards fighting a smaller man
I understand his concerns but it flies on the face of the 'fighting man anywhere anytime' image they've looked to cultivate. I like Fury and think he's both a great talent and good for the sport but I can't gloss over the less glory soaked parts of his career.
in this era a greater importance is placed on a fighter being unbeaten then in any era before I agree with you though a few things Fury has said in the past can be open to detrimental interpretations
Me either, Thor, (it could've been moved to the other spot), but ay. Meanwhile, what a fighter says to appease the umpteenth fan or scribbler who asks him about a fight or other that didn't happen is neither here nor there when the facts are so easily accessed. You'll get different explanations offered to different people on different days from pretty much any fighter, depending on their mood/tolerance level, let alone one as mercurial as Fury. They're not going to lay out complex wranglings to every Joe Blow or scribe who asks. The facts were documented clearly enough at the time, and, contemporaneous mob consensus aside, a sensible analysis of those facts will deconstruct the 'Fury ducked Price' myth. PBCS (Plain and Basic Common Sense). And Fury has had much reason for paranoia, besides. The BBBofC have had it out for him for years and years.
Had he just cancelled the fight when Chisora pulled out then it would of looked a lot better. A common sense approach wouldn't recommend accepting to fight a stand in whilst continuing to talk a big game whilst claiming the game is rigged against you only to then turn down the supposed challenge at the last minute. It is what it is. Much like UKAD Fury situation. Clear as mud due as that's how both parties wanted it in the end. Fury's excuse was laughable as was UKAD's level of professionalism.
Price, from back then, would have chinned Tyson. Yet Tyson fought for a pointless Irish belt. Tyson has managed the path to title fights very craftily.
I felt that’s what Fury should have done but I don’t think he ducked Ustinov also his uncle who he was very close to died unexpectedly which is understandably devastating as for the UKAD saga it was an absolute disgrace but I don’t want to get into that now as I’m off to bed shortly and the ensuing conversation would take a considerable amount of time
