I believe Hill beat Nunn to make the Olympics though.

 

Nunn W12. He'd make Hearns come to him. He isn't really physically overmatched here. His movement and defense will make Hearns look like a plodder.

 

No one ever outboxed tommy....no one..

Not sugar ray,not virgil hill..not benitez....kinchen came close...but tommys losses were all due to being outfought on the inside...

So than the question is does michael outfight him on the inside? I dont rule out Nunn landing 1 random bomb...and ending it...for sure the sudden decline tommy suffered in june 1988...he became a different fighter...his chin went overnite his legs too....

Movement didnt really bother Tommy his phenomenal reach allowed him to control things from the centre of the ring...the shot Tommy illustrated that against Michael Olajide...if Nunn decides to run than mug on the ropes when he gets tired...if he basically does what he did vs Barkley than imo even the confidence lacking Hearns of late 88/89/90 wins a landslide points win..

 

good call on Olajide. Michael moved to avoid the punch and try to wait until Tommy got tired in the later rounds. Angelo said later, Tommy got slicker meaning in the years he learned how to go rounds. Angelo thought he would be the same experienced guy he was in 1981-apparently.

Both of you are right...there is next to nothing in nunns 60 fight career to suggest anyone could consistently outpoint him let alone "landslide him"...i just have a gut instinct...and i may be in the minority if 1...i think a prime 85-87 middleweight hearns.....who still had swagger and confidence might hurt nunn worse than hes ever been hurt early...and he may find his movement wont help him as the hitman was adept at outboxing moving foes from the centre of the ring....virgil hill was moving a lot too.....theres skant evidence to think nunn might be landslided...but i base it on tommy nay hurt him early and Nunn may start running in survival mode

But its all the private gut instinct of an old duffer....nunn was a special fighter...what he did to kalambay was mind blowing....

A great regret this fight wasnt nade in 89/90...tommy and Michael both wanted it..

Nobody is outboxing Nunn, even if it's Hearns.

Most of Hearn's opponents were much smaller men who had no real physical advantage over him. Closest to him in physical size was Iran Barkley and Hill, who I don't think were on the skill level as Nunn. Going with Nunn UD12 here.

 

Ray Robinson would have out-jabbed Nunn and toyed with Starling and Barkley.

 

Hearns displayed that advantage over Benitez in one of the greatest scientific displays of boxing ever seen, however at middle Nunn usually had a similar advantage and was less effective at 168, having said that Hearns was less effective at 168 too, however his win over Hill at 175 out-does anything Nunn did above 160.
