Monzon talked about moving up and fighting Foster on various occasions. It didn't happen and one can hardly blame him.

Hard to overly call it ducking when he's a division up tho.

Couldn't put it any better if I tried. I'd say the same thing by the way, about Hagler. Middleweight was ideal for him...and it may have looked like he wasn't too eager to fight Mike Spinks, but in reality, it was a case of Hagler knowing what was best for him. Monzon and Hagler were indeed two smart fighters,...unlike so many others IMO.

And I might add two of the greatest middleweight champions that ever lived.

I know in an article of Ring magazine from 1975, Tito Lectoure, Carlos Monzon's manager had spoken to then WBC World Light Heavyweight Champion John Conteh's management of a possible fight in London, but it did not happen.

Canelo would have a shot. Great counters and head movement, could effectively counterpunch Foster. Can he do it for 15 rounds? Not sure. Canelo would have a much better shot at a 12 round fight.

This is also Canelo at 175, which he has only beaten old Kovalev so far at this weight. Hard to pick, but people are wrong in saying Canelo would be destroyed. He would give up a fight.

Later in his career Monzon was on record saying he'd probably fight Foster after an upcoming fight, can't remember who it was now.

This would never work well with Canelo. This is almost a classic knockout set up.

Canelo gets absolutely obliterated. He'd do over so slightly better than Mike Quarry. If that.

Thing is, Canelo doesn't have a prayer against guys like Foster, Spinks, Moore, Charles, ect. there's no point matching him up with them. Unless you enjoy the thought of him being so brutally KOed.

Bob knocks him cold in 4, only to lose a split decision.

Canelo would never fight him if he did I think he would just fight covered up and to avoid not to score anything so if he went the distance he would get the decision provided it’s a Golden Boy show promoted in Las Vegas.

Foster should be able to KO him in a fair fight but it’s a powerful thing knowing you can’t lose a fight if you just survive.

He ducked him because there is a clamor from the Public for them to fight

Maybe so, but a smart fighter as I said, knows his limitations. Carlos was comfortable at his weight, why do fighters have to move up in weight? In the 1970's, there were no purses like today. Carlos made $500,000 dollars for the 1st Rodrigo Valdes fight in 1976 in Monte Carlo, Monaco. The public does not go into the ring with you, and it is better to do what is best for you.
