I doubt the third fight happens. Fury won both in most people's eyes anyway. Wilder and Ruiz should fight each other next. 2 former champions looking to get back into the title picture.

 

Surely Fury can now get out of this fight legally somehow!? The original contract stated they had to fight by a certain date in July and now we're looking at December!? Fury can't waste his career waiting on this pointless fight!

Wilder's about to find out just how hard it can be to force Fury into a rematch he can't be bothered with. He should just take the step aside money and then take another fight to put himself in as mandatory challenger. He can earn good money beating Whyte if he can take him out.

 

Surely there is a Force Majeure clause in the contract that releases both men.

 

Wilder actually doesn’t have to though, since he has a contract that guarantees him a shot. As the saying goes you don’t get what you deserve, but what you negotiate for. Both Fury and Wilder’s teams had the foresight to negotiate for a rematch clause. If Fury had been the one to get knocked out he’d be enforcing his rematch clause as well.

Why would Wilder fight somebody else for less money and risk taking a loss or getting injured, If he must lose his next fight it makes the most sense to lose to Fury again and make the most money.

As long as Wilder’s side makes Fury an offer that’s reasonable according to their original contract Fury has to take the fight or risk being tied up in court.

Imagine if Lewis didn’t have a rematch clause for when he got knocked out against Rahman. Rahman had no intention of ever fighting Lewis again until Lewis tied him up in court. Lewis would’ve been a fool fight for another title shot when he was already guaranteed one by contract.

 

You give up too much leverage when you take step aside money. Remember when Ortiz took step aside money from Hearn to allow the Wlad-Joshua fight. Ortiz was actually dumb enough to think Joshua and Hearn would keep their word after the Wlad fight. Ortiz could’ve forced the fight between him and Joshua or forced Joshua to drop one of his belts, but was fooled by Hearn’s silver tongue.

Also, as long as the rematch between Fury and Wilder was mutually agreed upon Fury will have a hard time wiggling out of the rematch clause. If Fury wants a payday against Joshua he needs to finalize the Wilder series, since without the WBC title I don’t see Joshua and Hearn having any interest in Fury.

 

Ortiz hadn't been thoroughly outboxed and then slapped around the ring by Joshua though.

Not many people think Wilder has much of a chance to turn things around after such a comprehensive loss so if he can get a decent payday whilst giving himself time to rebuild I think that's best for everyone unless he genuinely is looking for one last payday.

And Fury def doesn't need the WBC title to make the Joshua fight huge. Everyone would know he was the rightful champion and if Wilder were to win it back against Whyte he'd be seen as the most paper of champions.

 

Whether Ortiz would’ve beaten Joshua wasn’t the point. The point was taking the step aside money and allowing Joshua to fight Wlad was a major career mistake. Ortiz ended having to wait to wait a year before he got another shot at a title for much less money. Ortiz basically agreed to waste his own time for less money.

You aren’t making much sense. Why would Wilder rebuild when he has a guaranteed rematch clause. No manager, who is worth their salt would allow Wilder to walk away from a guaranteed title shot. Frazier got completely demolished by Foreman, but I guarantee you that if Frazier he had a rematch clause he would’ve used it rather than climbing back up. You only climb backup when you have no choice.

Also, boxing is extremely unpredictable and Fury isn’t unbeatable. Just because people think Wilder doesn’t have much of a chance doesn’t mean much. I remember people saying Ruiz didn’t have a chance and then he flattened Joshua. I also remember people being high on Ruiz going into the rematch and saying Joshua would never be able to comeback from that loss.

Joshua has been very adamant about being the undisputed champ. Hearn paid Charles Martin $8.5 million for the IBF title, so if Fury tries to negotiate with Joshua and Hearn without the WBC title he’d have almost zero leverage. Joshua and Hearn couldn’t care less who everyone thinks the champ is. They obviously want all the titles, so that everyone has to go through Joshua for a title shot.

I doubt Joshua would even bother fighting Fury if he doesn’t come with the WBC title. Wilder on the otherhand still gains nothing from fighting Whyte or any of the top ranked WBC guys since he’s already entitled to a shot regardless of how unfair it might seem based off his last performance.

 

I don't think it'd be a career mistake from Wilder as he's in a completely different situation to the one Ortiz was in. I thought it a strange comparison TBH.

And if Joshua beat Fury next he'd be the undisputed champ whether or not Fury held the belt. Everyone would know it and he'd be recognised by history as such whilst the WBC would be hugely devaluing its status. I think your 'Fury needs to be possession of the WBC belt to make it worth Joshua's while' take couldn't be more wrong.
