BBBOC rules for boxing shows

I doubt boxing comes back before September at the earliest as I don’t see how Hearn/Warren answers the question of significant medical support being drawn to an event at this time and if it’s worth the possible backlash. Boxing isn’t the draw that football is.

If Hearn put on a three fight card with all fights being 50/50s with British level talent then he could make it work financially. Anything more than that would require PPV as domestic rights fees aren’t exactly high currently.

 

I agree that lower level talent is the more likely. It would be foolish to waste a top fighter before there's a chance of getting a decent return. That said, it will have been a long time since venues, broadcasters, fighters, trainers, anyone has got paid. There could be a fair degree of flexibility shown on all sides which could make something work that wouldn't have done pre lockdown.

Remember, no-one wants to be out of the public eye too long. Next thing is the average fan thinks 'I don't miss boxing all that much, not now I've discovered marble racing' and the next thing the goose that lays the golden eggs is sunday dinner.

 

The arris is about to fall out of boxing purses along with most sectors and businesses as we enter the worst world recession thought possible.

The days of Puddings Whyte, Chisora and Parker being paid millions for Lineal Pudding Title fights is over until the GLOBAL economy recovers.

Sly could have to significantly reduce subscription prices or their model will fall apart - hopefully the Ozil type footballers on £350k per week fall down to a more reasonable £3,500 per week.

Cannot see Sly Sports even thinking about pay per puddings when business survival is the priority over the next 1-2 years.

No business is too big to be sunk if it ignores the needs of the customer base.

 

I've not looked into it so not sure on the rules set out but could they not look at paying for private medical assistance to be ringside?

Surely with zero live sport at the minute, 2/3 evenly matched fights will be lapped up by fans and not lose too much money in the process. Somebody earlier in the thread mentioned it but the golden contract finals would be a good place to start.

 

I’m not entirely sure but I think there has to be some NHS involvement due to getting a fighter to hospital in under an hour. The costs involved of hiring a private medical team, transport and most importantly a hospital bed would be steep and not a good look.

Sky won’t allow an unforced PR disaster at this time- however hard Hearn pushes them.

I was chatting to a mate yesterday who runs a steel plant in the Czech Republic. They went into immediate lockdown before a single fatality was recorded in the first week of March. In a country of 11m people there have been only 220 fatalities so far.
The UK will be looking at 35,000 dead before our lockdown is significantly relaxed but as you say, no one really questions a thing.

 

Was listening to a pile of shyte yesterday about how Scotland is managing this crisis better - with 10/% of England's population then 10% of cases would be about right on average but it is well below this. Sounds good so far.

However, when comparing with a country of a similar population for example New Zealand - the deaths in Scotland closing in on 1,500 looks extremely poor compared with 19 in New Zealand.

The UK now firmly in 3rd place in the Table of Deaths having left Spain trailing this week.

This time next week, the UK will be firmly in 2nd place only behind the USA.

Both countries were slow to react - the coin was more important than people's health.

If I take the example of a car crash where both drivers are seriously injured and taken to hospital, the UK politicans spin that they have done a great job as 3 beds were available in the ward even though the two drivers later die in hospital.

The Table of Death is what I judge success on and clearly the UK politicians (including Scotland) have presided over a catastrophic disaster.

 

Similar to something I read about Ireland. If you ratio out the population and population density of Dublin and London etc. We have had 4x more deaths than them per head. That is despite going into lockdown after us. Pubs and restaurants were advised to shut, (week before paddy’s day) not told but shut anyway, they shut schools almost a month earlier and other work places. I think this country’s culture of work until we drop is a joke to be honest.
You could see this coming. Many people of this country believe the government have our best interests at heart, so they don’t think to question. They just aren’t aware enough to question to themselves. I think everything they’ve done with this whole situation is for them to gain from it. From getting rid of plenty of old people who we don’t have the people to look after to making us a cashless society quicker so there’s no anonymous transactions.

 

I'd be cautious about going full on conspiracy theory though. It doesn't make much sense for a pro-Brexit Conservative government to kill off a load of elderly people who are more likely to be pro-Brexit Conservatives for one. And seriously, can we try and keep the cashless stuff to the maniacs in the lounge? Absolutely nobody is using the Coronavirus pandemic to engineer a cashless society through the back door in order to find out which flavour cup-a-soup Steven Tragic is buying.

 

There were plenty who thought we should just leave it all open for the economy though. It's only six weeks that we still had plenty out saying it's just flu and we're over-reacting.

The week of the Cheltenham festival was the week we made a very serious mistake. We should have seen this coming and for whatever reason we looked the other way and reacted too late. It won't be the disaster it could have been, but it's somewhat galling to see the likes of Johnson heralding this as a success. The fact you could have got an E-grade in your exam does not mean getting a D is a success. You've still failed.
