How good is it, really? Did he cherrypick, or was he just that much better than everyone else he fought?
His resume is much better than he is given credit for. He already had a great resume at the point of retirement after his fight with ODLH. He fought on and became an ATG and rose up the rankings in the ATG list. Some resumes can be picked apart more than others, but not Floyd Mayweather's. The names that he missed are not so bad compared to those that he did'nt miss. Take into account all the information on why some fights happens later than others (not just the Pac-Man fight) and you have a fighter that always did his best to build a great ATG resume. Furthermore, his resume has a lot more solid wins than he is given credit for. Hell, most people do not even recognize nor take into consideration all his fights before ODLH. Remember, he already had a resume worthy of retiring on at the point, but he came back for another decade and ruled, PFP number 1 all the way through.
Excellent resume. Half of his pro fights came against guys who used to be champs, were reigning champs, or would become champs. He'll be a first ballot Hall of Famer. He's an all-time great. The term "cherrypick" doesn't apply to people who fought champs in 50 percent of their fights. Mayweather was an all-time great fighter.
His resume is truly outstanding. I cannot think of any other fighter who has defeated as many world champions as he has. Therein lies a tale in itself. I think those who try to attack his resume are detractors who hate him. As Mayweather himself said Nothing is perfect apart from his boxing record.
Mayweather has a record of 26 consecutive wins in world title fights (10 by KO), 23 wins (9 KOs) in lineal title fights, 24 wins (7 KOs) against former or current world titlists, 12 wins (3 KOs) against former or current lineal champions, and 3 wins (1 KO) against International Boxing Hall of Fame inductees. This is the significance of his resume and legacy.
The problem with you, is that you’re so defensive of him, someone just questioning or criticising some aspects of his resume will be labelled as a hater. Floyd has a great resume. Absolutely brilliant. The clear avoidance of Manny will always hurt him though.
BS because he beat Pacquiao who incidentally is a couple of years younger than him and he beat him well outclassed him! A lot of his detractors find negativity because they hate him or dislike what they perceive his personality to be. This topic is about the merits of his resume which is second to none and stands up against any others from a historical perspective.
Due to the circumstances, what would have been one of the greatest wins in the sport had it have occurred in 2010, is now not even Floyd’s best win. Most people believe that his wins over Canelo, Oscar and Corrales rate higher.
Yeah, he has his haters. But there’s also objective fans who question some of his decisions, who you just accuse of being haters with an agenda.
What a bunch of bull**** on here! All those “champs” Floyd fought were too small, too old, washed up, etc.. he never took a risk against a prime A level fighter. Thunderdomeboxing proved it on YouTube. Castillo best him, and he dodged Margarito, Freitas, Casamayor, prime Manny, prime Cotto, Sergio, Tszyu , Forrest, Paul Williams , the list is endless.. ooh but he beat Carlos Bumdomir. What a legend!
Diego Corrales was a fantastic dominant world champion Floyd destroyed in a 50:50 unification fight. It was a Leonard vs Hearns type situation. Difficult to rank any victory above that frankly. Canelo turned out to be an easy fight for him. Great fighters beat Oscar as Floyd did despite A-side advantages Oscar had. It was the biggest PPV fight in history at the time. The Manny fight when it happened is the record as the most lucrative in history so it worked out very well and Floyd won comfortably because he has always been better than Pacquiao. If Pacquiao had not rejected the blood and urine drug testing it would have happened in 2010 but he did stupidly in my opinion for whatever reasons he had. Pacquiao is on Floyd’s resume and the fact he is still fighting and kicking the crap out of younger champions like Broner and Thurman up to now shows how great Floyd is. There might be issues with the resumes of others but nothing wrong withFloyd Mayweather’s it’s perfect.
