This is a rough matchup for Ali here. Lewis had more than just size he was sharp and threw that right hand straight down the pipe. Ali could make him miss but he couldn`t afford to make too many mistakes. I think Ali was capable of winning but he would have to fight a perfect fight against a taller, highly skilled and very powerful heavyweight. I would predict Lewis by decision with a knockdown.
Exactly. And, in spite of the fact that Lewis hits harder, the only man who might get stopped in this matchup is Lennox. Historically, Ali seemed to almost always rise to the occasion and stop the most fearsome punchers. He did it to Liston, Williams, Foreman, Lyle. And a way past it Ali had minimal problems with the hard punching Shavers (who was in his prime). Ali by clear UD, or late round stoppage. If it was scheduled for more than 12 rounds, Ali definitely gets a stoppage.
True, but the speed differential between Ali and Lewis (of both hand and foot ) would be dramatic. And I see no evidence that Lewis is any stronger than George Foreman (quite likely, he possesses less brute strength than Big George). Contrary to what George expected, he was not able to manhandle Ali around the ring like he expected. George has been quoted as saying that Ali was one of the strongest men he got in the ring with. Lewis would need to fight the perfect fight to have any chance of winning. And, even if Lewis fought a perfect fight, there is no question who has the bigger heart. In a close fight, that is often the difference.
The more I think about this fight, the more I think Lewis wins it. Ali liked guys to come to him. That is not going to work vs a taller and longer opponent like Lewis who could box. So Ali is going to have to change his stripes and fight. Not his preference. And he's not countering Lewis much. Lewis didn't like body shots. No issues here, Ali didn't throw them! Ali could Clinch, but Lewis would own him here, and use his uppercut. Ali had no uppercut. Lewis was not dope, nor did he gas. This is how Ali beat Foreman. He could box better than anyone Ali beat...better than Norton who beat Ali 2-1 on the fair score cards. And Lewis can hit far harder than Frazier or Lyle. Frazier won the first fight 9-6 with two 10-8 round, and Lyle, who is slower and not as good as Lewis was outboxing Ali. Ali's unorthodox guard had issues with good jabbers...Jones, Norton, Young, Lyle....Lewis jab's is as good in some ways better than all of these guys. Now he's facing a much bigger man, who can really box and hit who did not gas, and who's pretty smart himself! A tall order. Could Ali catch Lewis' very unreliable chin? Perhaps, his right hand had a way of being dramatic. I like Lewis on points. 9-6 in a 15 round fight and this includes the 67' Ali or the 74' Ali.
What complete and utter bull****. This Frank Lotierzo is a clueless idiot. The part that made me laugh the most was that Lewis didn't punch hard enough to KO Ali. If Lewis ever lands flush, Ali's body is sent right down to the morgue.
Liston was around 40 and took a dive. Williams a shot fighter. Cooper was a cruiserweight and yet he still dropped Ali and would have won by KO had it not been for Dundee'd cheating. Folley is a joke, a complete bum. Lewis wins and he doesn't even break a sweat.
That's cause they were either completely shot (Williams), past their prime not training properly and took a dive (Liston) or slow as **** and could never land (Foreman).
LOL. Why he didn't sent 214-lbs Zjelko Mavrovic to the morgue with his best punches then? Or small (and old) Holyfield? Hell, even Levi Billups?
