Considering the man went life and death with Oba Carr, I wouldn't favor DLH over Taylor @ 140. I think Mel soundly decisions him.

Taylor dismantled a fighter as good as McGirt.

I'll wait allllllll day for you to tell me what fighter as good as McGirt did Oscar ever dominate.

 

Yeah Taylor could outpoint Oscar. I favour Oscar though. Not sure where McGirt comes into it though lol

 

I’m going with Chavez. Padded record or not, going 89-0 is an unbelievable achievement.

 

Chavez was the far more cerebral and technical skilled fighter. The boxing novice would watch both and say, "DLH is the better boxer." But we know that's not true.

Their meeting in 96 would have been entirely different if JCC were 7 years younger.

 

For me, DLH's best strengths are his speed and reach, and that he knows how to use them. His biggest weaknesses are that he had awful stamina and could never win a big fight convincingly.

 

Oscar had a superb jab, very fast hands, one helluva left hook, and an excellent chin. Those were his four strengths.

His weaknesses: Too stiff and rigid, no right hand whatsoever, no infighting ability, bad stamina, low ring IQ.

 

Yeah, his jab and speedy hands is what I meant by using his reach well.

To be honest, all things considered, DLH is a pretty big over achiever.

 

Another weakness of Oscar: Offensive footwork.

He could dance around laterally well, when he had to come forward he did so in a complete straight line like a zombie. Totally rudimentary offensive footwork.

 

The Mosley-DLH fights were essentially two bimbos with fast hands and good chins.

 

I'm being serious. Watch DLH-Mosley 1 then go watch Leonard-Duran 1.

One fight features two masters duking it out in a highly skilled inside war. Both using multiple skills at their disposal.

The other... two bimbos throwing combinations for the helluva it, neither one with a concrete idea of what they wanna do. Shane thinking "Lemme throw fast combos, I bet I look like Ray Leonard!" Oscar thinking "Lemme come forward in a straight line! That's what Duran did, right?"

 

Oh no I believe you, neither of those guys are the go-to for skills. Hell, Vernon Forrest was more refined than either than them, and he lost to Mayorga!

 

Chavez ranks higher. He is a great iconic fighter and at his peak win the career defining fights which Oscar did not.
