Mike Tyson would beat Wilder right now with 6 weeks of training in 1 minute.

So says Jeff Fenech along with some other hard hitting views.

Duran would be a 10 time world champ in the current era.

80's and 90's boxers are a class above the current.

Duran, Leonard, Hearns, Chavez and Jones would be too good.

Strength and conditioning sessions are taking the edge off current fighters.

Guys now can't last or fight at pace.

Fury, Crawford and Inoue are the top 3 fighters today.

'Mike Tyson would beat Deontay Wilder in one round' - Jeff Fenech

Current day Mike Tyson would beat Deontay Wilder, and Roberto Duran would be a 10 time world champion if he was boxing today.

That's the view of former three-time world champion Jeff Fenech, who says they don't make boxers like they used to.

Fenech, who trained Tyson towards the back end of Iron Mike's career, says the boxers of the 1980s and '90s were a class above today's current crop of fighters.

"When Deontay Wilder knocked out (Luis) Ortiz, there was hardly a punch thrown in the fight," Fenech told Sporting News.

A rough-nosed brawler who could match it with anyone in his day, Fenech prefers the up-tempo, all-out style of the old timers over the more calculated approach we often see today.

    So, what changed?

"I don't know when it changed, but I look at these guys doing their strength and conditioning session in the day and I think that takes the edge away in the fight and as a fighter," he said.

"You want to have all that energy and strength preserved for when you box.

"That's when you want to be at your best.

"Ray Leonard and everybody else, they didn't do all that stuff during the day and they were able to fight 15 rounds at an amazing pace.

"These guys do all that and they still can't throw punches, and they still can't last or fight at a pace."

Although he respects what Canelo Alvarez has done in moving up weight divisions to win titles and appreciates Vasiliy Lomachenko's style and movement, Fenech sees three current day fighters as standing out from the rest.

"Tyson Fury is one of the most skilled guys I've seen," he said.

"I still think he's doing some little things wrong, but he believes in himself, he has a plan and he sticks to it.

"I see the best fighter pound-for-pound in the world as Terence 'Bud' Crawford and (Naoya) Inoue.

"He (Inoue) leaves Lomachenko - skillwise as a professional - for dead.

"I'd watch Inoue any day over Lomachenko. The only thing Lomachenko has over him is he's in a bigger weight division, so there's a bit more money there.

"But when you're talking sheer class and skill, I love the kid."

Tyson Koing Wilder in a minute while traing briefly & in his mid 50's is absurd.
I will entertain that boxers from that era might have been better overall, but even if they had greater stamina, I need an explanation how strength & conditioning tax them.
Unless guys are not recovering adequately or tapering down before a fight, that does not make sense.

It's like Arcel saying that Dempsey would beat Tyson, Lewis etc all in one night. The lure of the golden glint through the mists of time just is that great.

I agree with him about Inoue and Crawford, but surprised that he didn't rate Loma.

As for Tyson of today, the guy still can hit his mitts:

Much as I like the guy, and he looks really good hitting the mitts, the fact is he hasn't thrown or taken a punch in battle in 15 years; even Foreman was only gone for 10. He's also 53 damn years old and smokes pot almost daily. I mean, who knows - anything's possible, maybe he's the guy who can do it ... but I wouldn't build him up too much just yet. In the clip above, even he admits that it's easy to look good when you're not doing it for real in the ring. When someone's hitting you back with bad intentions, that's when you see whether or not you're still in the game.
