Could have Mike Tyson reigned as champion for 3 years in the 1960's ?

Yeah but he fought him again in 1972 with the same result. And this time, Patterson was 188 pounds and Ali was 218 pounds.

Perhaps. But I’ve never bought into this whole idea “ well he lost to Douglas thing. “ first of all that wasn’t Tyson’s best night and secondly styles make fights. Ali was troubled by left hooks his entire career and Tyson had one of the deadliest. Cus D’Amato trained him with a style to trouble that TYPE of fighter as well.

Mr Magoo, I respect your opinion, but Tyson was beatable, on any night as any champion can be, that included Ali. Cus although a good trainer did shield his fighters, like Patterson. Yank Durham was the same with Frazier. Tyson losing to Douglas is the same as Ali being troubled by a left hook because of Henry Cooper in his pre title years, he would not get hurt again until his fight with Frazier. You have your opinion on Tyson being the best, I have mine on Ali being the best. That is what these posts are about.

I know he did, on Sept 20 1972 in Madison Square Garden, a cut in the 7th round ended it. It was Patterson's last fight.

Depends on what 3 years. The first three, yes, depending on when he faces Liston, then it's questionable. The last three, when there was no undisputed champion? He'd definitely get a piece of the title and it all depends on when he faces Frazier to unify things and what happens.

I don’t think Tyson was the best. And I agree Ali could beat him. But I don’t think it’s a given. And even if he did, it would hardly be an easy fight. Some people seem to think that Muhammad would just Casually dance around the ring toying and taunting Tyson until Mike gets frustrated and tired and then that’s all she wrote.... Not gonna happen..

I would say Ali wins in the years, 1964-1967, if it was in the 1970's I would have to agree that maybe Mike wins because Ali was very vulnerable, the banishment from boxing due to his refusal to accept the draft, 1967-1970, he lost his footwork, reflexes, speed and stamina, and you cannot lay on the ropes against Tyson.

Let's be frank, Tyson did have some degree of mental issues, Ali in the years 1964-1967 would dance and taunt his opponents, but he had all the tools to do it, footwork, reflexes, speed and stamina. Remember fights were 15 rounds back then, he would do it without laying on the ropes, that would be in the 1970's. Which brings me to, I think Mike has the chance to beat Ali in the 1970's, when he was banished for refusing to go to war, he lost all of his physical attributes that he had in the above prime years. His banishment was from 1967-1970, he got hit a lot more and he did not have stamina any more. Laying on the ropes against Tyson does not turn out good at all. When Cooper decked him in 1963, he was flatfooted, against Cooper in the rematch in 1966, he moved and avoided the left hook and chopped Henry Cooper up, 14 stitches, TKO 6. But I respect your opinion as well, my good man.

I reckon the Ali that beat Foreman could beat Tyson. He was aggressive in the first round and hammered Foreman with quite a few big right hands. Plenty survived Tyson's early attack by tying him up etc and i'm sure that version of Ali would be no different.
