Yeah, you’ll probably proclaim Joyce (should DD win) as some kind of Mt. Rushmore heavyweight or contender, which he’s not. He’s at best a suspect, not even a true prospect yet. You base Dubois’ potential off beating Fujimoto? What exactly says he’s to be counted as a potential Tua (or Wilder) ... other than I guess you could say that about anyone before they face even the mildest test.
He doesn't have the option to go down the Wilder route, much as his promoters would love to have him take it. No-one is going to pay him to face 30 odd journeymen in a row, he will have to step up or people will lose interest.
That's not true at all. Stiverne and Ortiz (in their first fights, although Ortiz looked plenty useful in the rematch) were absolutely live opponents. Both legit top 10, top 5 (in my book) for Ortiz guys, Breazeale should absolutely not have been fighting for a world title I might revise Duhaupas to being a live dog seeing as all the other dudes he lost to turned out to be PED heads (Teper, Povetkin and Miller). His Helenius win looks a little less useless given his recent exploits too. Going to sweep the Pianeta one under the carpet for now
He’ll probably get to challenge for a title within the next year or so because he’s got the connections, but I don’t think he’ll ever win one or be a longtime force in the division even as a contender. So far he hasn’t faced anyone on which we can make any judgment.
Can’t see Wilder fighting Dubois Dubois has nothing to offer very dangerous fight for Wilder, only way it would happen in British soil on PPV , I still think Wilder make much more money against an average less dangerous fighter in the states.
Stiverne first time was a live opponent but Wilder himself had fought absolutely nobody and was the challenger. His best win may very well have been Audley Harrison. Since then he's beaten one live opponent. The rest are largely cannon fodder who are a clear step beneath decent contenders. The issue for Wilder is that he's had years to build up a decent CV but he never did because he kept fighting rubbish or, more recently, was emphatically battered.
And you won't hear me argue that his CV isn't anywhere near up to scratch for a world champion, but the rhetoric is going to far the other way. People pretending he has absolutely no legit wins are just flat out wrong.
I'm not sure people are saying he has no legit wins, but he's not beaten anyone better than Ortiz across two fights, both of which he was losing, in a career that's gone on for a very long time. And Ortiz isn't really that good himself. I think it's best we just agree that his CV is very, very light for a world champion and actually in many ways weaker than some who never became a world champion.
There is, but again it depends on how much time you spend on the General forum. The Brit one is a lot more sensible. Certainly something I agree with.
I think they are more susceptible to doing so very early in a fighter’s career before he’s even faced a live opponent. Dubois hasn’t yet and in this thread he’s been made a favorite over Wilder and, oh, yeah, he’s on par with Tua lol.
Agreed, some posts are over the top Tonys Tua comparison needs to be put in to context however I see the point and example he is making C'mon tons of threads like this over the years in general Its boxing fans nature to want an exciting fighter to go all the way and sometimes that spills over in to unrealistic expectations
I agree. As limited as Wilder it is too soon for DD. Let him beat Joyce, Helenius and Breazeale and then look for a mandatory
Both have the power to take anyone out and the first to land the bomb takes the fight. Wilder being grossly underrated after being defeated by the Gyspy King, the number one and the only current undefeated Lineal World Heavyweight Champion. Tony Dosh PPV in particular looks made for Wilder - stiff, chinny, no punch resistance and poor stamina. Would be rooting for DDD but Wilder has every chance of icing him.
