I remember watching this live. I was 13 Pac was hero. This fight was devastating for me to watch. I had seen Marquez give him a good challenge, but I had never seen anybody comprehensively defeat Pacquiao like this.
This fight was the end of Prime Morales and the beginning of prime Pac. Marco and Erik did a number on each other.
After watching what Raheem did to Morales before his rematch with Pacquiao , I saw that his legs were gone and he was not going to be competitive against Pacquiao anymore .
What a great fight! Loved how Morales was raising his arm near the end, trying to goad manny in to the war.
He was. Back in his prime (122-126), I would have happily picked him over a handful of bigger fighters. He really was something special.
I'd pick any Morales at those weights to beat Pacquiao. Doesn't matter what happens, he's just all wrong for him. I also pick him over Márquez too. And I thought he took the last two Barrera fights. El Terriblé has to be in the conversation as a top 5 fighter of the 2000s. After May, Pac and Hopkins, surely it's between him, Wlad and Jones.
Hopkins' best version of himself was in the mid-late 90s. I'd easily take a prime Morales over a past prime Hopkins. Believe it or not Morales actually has a decent argument for 3rd greatest fighter of the 2000s.
I mean, B-Hop was beating top contenders throughout the 2nd half of '00s whilst middle aged and making countless title defences throughout the first half.
Yea, but he didn't beat Manny Pacquiao. I rate Morales higher than most. In fact, if Pacquiao didn't go on to conquer the higher weight classes I'd see an argument for Morales being as great if not greater than Pacquiao himself. Like if Pacquiao had retired after the beating Marquez for the 130 pound title.
Erik beat a one-dimensional, still developing Pacquiao. And Erik went on to take Danny and Marcos into deep water.
