Yep, talk his cheap. Joe was a great fighter. He should have moved up and targeted DM as a path to Roy.
Posted a link in that post for one... Second was from his book... Not 100% sure what you're saying in the second part.. But if you're asking why did Joe say the stuff in those clips if he was ducking Jones.. It's because someone told him how bad his comments looked when he said Jones was a good fighter he wasn't looking for tough fights, he just wanted big money.
I know mate, but why would any guy want to look like an idiot to hundreds of people week in week out? I'm certain that he's a really intelligent guy. Why would an intelligent guy want to project himself as an idiot? It makes no sense. This will make you laugh. I'm actually coming on here everyday, and I'm away on holiday. That probably makes even less sense than what he's doing ha!
Ricky Hatton had the pound for pound number one fighter in the World operating in the division above him, so he got on a plane to the States, moved up to his division, beat a champion to pick up a belt in that division and publicly called him out after fights. Calzaghe had the pound for pound number one fighter in the World operating in the division above him, so he publicly stated he didn't want to fight him and stayed at home in the division below where fought low ranked nobodies like Tocker Pudwill. Can people see the difference?
Calzaghe deserves some credit yes, but like you say Jones was clearly in decline when they fought. Had both fighters been in their peak i believe Jones takes it, he had wins over peak Hopkins and Toney who were both arguably better than any of Calzaghe's opponents, decent fighter though Calzaghe is.
This is an excerpt from his autobiography - 'No Ordinary Joe' published a year before they fought in 2007: "I have no interest anymore in Roy Jones and no interest in Antonio Tarver. Jones is washed up and Tarver was never that good anyway. He just caught Jones when Jones was shot and Johnson did the same"
What about Roy Jones performance? Even in a losing effort how would you rate Roy's performance against Calzaghe and his effectiveness. He was out volumed but he landed a lot of quality shots on Calzaghe. For RJJ to go to the distance with Calzaghe says a lot when many expected Roy to get stopped or hurt. I think looking back on it we have to say that RJJ made an improvement since the Tarver and Johnson KO losses. For RJJ to come back from those KOs and go the distance vs Calzaghe says a lot. He fought well enough over 12 rounds and with the knock down I have to applaud RJJ for making adjustments and re establishing himself as a contender at that age.
He doesn’t deserve any credit. He said that a fight with Roy was pointless, as he’d been a shot fighter since 2004. He said that the year before they fought. He then swerved a Pavlik fight to fight Roy, where he showboated, before being aggrieved with the media afterwards, as he hadn’t gotten the credit that he thought he deserved.
He was. But not on Roy’s level. Their fight was meaningless. This is what Joe said just 3 weeks ago when speaking about Froch’s recent call out: “I think I could have beaten any SMW in history. But maybe not Roy Jones in his prime” That’s all you need to know. When a fighter says that, you know exactly what it means.
Roy Jones and Andre Ward definitely beat Joe. No real discussion to have there. Can't think of another dedicated super middle in history I would pick over him though.
