Carter has wins over Griffith, Fernandez, and Benton among others. I don't see how Barkley accomplished more.

Barkley had the advantage of fighting in an era with many belts and more weight classes but in terms of best wins Carter seems to have an edge.

Griffith was fighting one of his first fights at MW and even so that fight was stopped pretty damn quick for the era. Id never pick Carter to be able to repeat that performance. The Benton fight was supposedly fixed, along with Carters win over Mims. Fernandez had won one of his last four fights and been stopped in two of those. Carter didnt have anywhere near the class or depth to his game to beat Barkley who was bigger, stronger, and frankly more well rounded than Carter who remains one of the most overrated fighters in the sport.

Thank you! I thought the same thing, that fight should have continued and I wouldn't have counted Iran out of it

No evidence for these fights being fixed. I could just as easily claim Barkley's wins were fixed.

If Barkley was better rounded why didn't he have a better career? His resume is pretty thin aside from the Hearns win.

Barkley also fought in an era where the best fighters frequently didn't face each other and probably avoided bad losses to guys like McCallum and Eubank because he had the good fortune not to face them.

Frankly I doubt Barkley beats Griffith, flukey result notwithstanding.

Following his loss to Tiger, Fernandez won 5 fights straight including kayo wins over Joe DeNucci and Jose Torres. He wasn't on the downside by any means.

LOL. Joe Denucci, who was coming off a loss and would win one of his next seven fights, that lone win was a hometown decision over Moyer in which Denucci's own hometown papers thought Moyer won. You can qualify your guy any way you want but the fact remains that Carter didnt exactly set the world on fire until he murdered a few people. Like I said, he was one dimensional, smaller, and lost to guys worse than Barkley. He had been a pro less than five years and was only 29 when his career ended. He hadnt had that many fights so the guy was still in his prime and he was losing consistently. Neither guy was the greatest ever but I just dont see anything Carter brings to the table that was better than what Barkley brought to the table. The guy is ridiculously overrated based on the simple fact that he notched a one in a million over a guy a division south of him, looked mean, and sold a bull**** story about being framed for murder. Watch his fights and look at his record and you can see he was nothing but an ordinary slugger. You dont have to believe his fights were fixed but when a guy drops you and then does nothing to follow it up and people in the know stated for years that it was a fix it adds a cloud over the affair. Regardless, we can agree to disagree, Im pretty confident Carter wouldnt beat Iran Barkley, certainly not in a series. He just wasnt good enough or consistent enough.

If Barkley is held to SDs by Kinchen and Saunderland Williams, as well as being dropped and beat by a 38 year old LW I reckon Carter has a chance. Especially given that Barkley's chin ain't granite. It's okay, but not much more. He's also walking onto Carter's shots, which isn't advised.

Both have a chance, it's a close fight. It's actually a pretty good fight.

I haven't seen a lot of Carter, but from watching this one vs. George Benton, he looks good. Nice fundamentals and looks to have a nice jab when he uses it, hook and right hand. Also one of those guys with a small waist whose arms cover him from his trunks to his chin when in his stance. Not many targets for his opponent.

I'm going with the guy who used to spar Sonny Liston until one day he bled out of both ears. He looks really good on film and for a banger puts plenty of emphasis on defense. I like his punching form too and the way he puts them together. He's quite an impressive fighter despite his record and for me is a bit too skilled and well rounded for Iran.

This is a pretty even fight when you look at it. Both guys beat great fighters, Carter over Benton/Griffin and Barkley over Hearns twice which no one else not even Sugar Ray can claim. Both guys were pretty beatable as well, but I lean slightly towards the Blade just because I like his size and I see Carter falling into a Brawl with Barkley which gives Barkley the edge.

I don't begrudge anyone who picks Carter though. Anyone that has a win over George Benton is a good fighter which he was although he was certainly beatable.

It really isnt an even fight. Different class of fighters.
Benton would have put a huge beating on Iran.
Iran tough as they come but come on he struggled with alot of boxers and got a couple of gift decisions along the way.
Jorge Amparo landed almost at will vs Iran and Iran only managed to pull it out the win by rallying in the latter rounds.
Iran had no defense at all and against Rubin thats going to be a problem. A BIG problem.
