Mike Tyson is the youngest HW champ ever. He won the title at 20 years, 4 months and 23 days old. That's over a full year younger than any other champion. It's actually rare for a HW under 25 to win a world title. There hasn't been a champ younger than 25 since the 1990s if I can recall correctly. His record seems impossible to break.
It is possible But it would require a change in the current culture of boxing, where up and comers are petrified of losing an 0. It is also rare to see younger HWs getting title shots in recent years. The sheer number of HWs in their late 30s recently getting shots is strange. At that age they are washed.
Let's be honest, Berbick wasn't on the level of Wilder or Joshua and certainly not Fury. It would need another transition era with no dominant established champion like the mid 80s.
Younger you are the better reaction time you should have. If you have style that requires speed i see no reason why wait till you are late 20s. Guys like Morrison did not wait till they got older they rather had more fights to build expierence. Today guys like Boytsov, Chagaev start to decline before even having title shots. Same with povetkin who waited till wlad got old and it did not work... I think its management that tries to earn money protect their fighter till they cash out.
It’s quite possible, Young athletes today are able to tap into (legal) sciences, strength & conditioning, nutrition, training aids etc All it needs is for some freaky athletically gifted kid with a burning ambition to drop on the right trainer (history repeating itself). Throw in a mix of mediocre to good World Champions, some reaching their career end and you have the right circumstances for Tyson’s record getting beat.
Floyd Patterson still has recognision as youngest linear champ as many don't count Tysons reign untill he defeated Spinks. I find it weird as Tyson became undisputed champ and Spinks seemed to duck him. If Tyson became champ after Spinks he had 2 title defences...
Well Daniel Dubois is now 22, but are we saying even that the 20 year old Dubois wouldn't be able to smash someone looking to cash their belt out like Charles Martin and pick up a cheap world title?
It's not impossible to break.. But unlikely to be beaten. Then again, look at Foreman s record as the oldest heavyweight. Can't see that being overtaken ever tbh.
I think Foreman's record is more likely to be broken instead of Tyson's. Wlad at 41 took a prime Joshua life and death and came close to finishing him. A 46 year old Wlad could probably beat a handful of former alphabet titlists.
Personally, l can’t see it. Tyson had 20 fights in his first year as a pro and fought regularly thereafter ( obviously apart from his incarceration ). I’ve posted similar before, but today’s HW are simply nowhere near as active. Management team’s are so protective of their prized asset and cherry pick fights as they see the megabuck fights ahead. An example is Filip Hrgovic. He is 27 and has only had 10 fights. He has being placed in some top 10 lists, ludicrous ! I’m sure there’re plenty of similar examples. There’s more chance of the oldest ever Heavyweight record being broken than the youngest.
In the 80s a 20 year old ghetto kid was like a 30 year old today in terms of maturity. Plus there were less technological distractions so you got a lot more real life experience.
